Who is driving license class B1, B2 issued to?

- Class B1 automatic license is issued to non-professional drivers to drive the following types of vehicles:

+ Automatic car with up to 9 seats, including the driver's seat;

+ Trucks, including specialized trucks with automatic transmission, with a design load capacity of less than 3,500 kg;

+ Car for the disabled.

- Class B1 is granted to non-professional drivers to drive the following types of vehicles:

+ Passenger cars with up to 9 seats, including the driver's seat;

+ Trucks, including specialized trucks with a design load capacity of less than 3,500 kg;

+ Tractor pulling a trailer with a design load of less than 3,500 kg.

- Class B2 is granted to drivers to operate the following types of vehicles:

+ Specialized vehicles with a design load of less than 3,500 kg;

+ Vehicle types specified for class B1 driving license.

How old do you have to be to take the B1, B2 driving test?

Pursuant to Point b Clause 1 Article 60 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, people aged 18 years or older can register to study and take the B1 and B2 driving license exam.

What documents are required for B1, B2 driving license exam?

Pursuant to Clause 1, Article 9 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, people who need to take the B1, B2 driving license exam need to prepare a file including the following documents:

- Application for studying and testing to obtain a driver's license according to the prescribed form.

- Copy of valid identity card or citizen identification card or passport with the identity card number or citizen identification card number for Vietnamese people; valid passport for Vietnamese people residing abroad;

- Copy of passport valid for more than 06 months and temporary residence card or permanent residence card or diplomatic identity card or official identity card for foreigners;

- Driver's health certificate issued by a competent medical facility as prescribed.

Learners need to submit all of the above documents to the driving training facility to complete the application for a driving license.

What will be tested for B1 and B2 driving license?

Pursuant to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 21 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT and Point a, Clause 13, Article 1 of Circular 38/2019/TT-BGTVT, the content of the B1 and B2 driving license test will include:

- Theoretical test: includes questions related to regulations of road traffic law, driving techniques, and also content related to structure and common repairs, driver ethics (for class B1 car driving license); structure and common repairs, transportation operations, driver ethics (for class B2 car driving license).

- Practical driving test in the shape for categories B1, B2: Candidates must perform the correct order and drive the vehicle through the test exercises arranged at the test center such as: starting, stopping the vehicle to give way to pedestrians, stopping and starting the vehicle on a slope, going through wheel tracks and perpendicular curves, going through intersections with traffic lights, going through winding curves, parking, stopping at a railway crossing, operating when encountering dangerous situations, changing gears on a flat road, and finishing.

- Car driving test using software simulating traffic situations: Test takers handle simulated situations that appear on the computer.
