Many special activities in the Festival of Vietnamese Ethnic Cultures

The 2024 Vietnam Ethnic Culture Festival opened in Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province with the participation of 1,500 artisans, actors, and athletes from 16 provinces and cities across the country.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the People's Committee of Quang Tri province.

With the theme “Preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Vietnamese ethnic groups - Equality, solidarity, respect, integration and development for a peaceful world,” the Festival took place with many exciting activities.

Many special cultural and sports activities

The 2024 Vietnam Ethnic Culture Festival has the participation of 1,500 artisans, actors, and athletes from 16 provinces and cities across the country, including: Lang Son, Son La, Bac Giang, Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lam Dong and Quang Tri.

Taking place over 4 days (13-16/12), the festival has many unique cultural, tourism and sports activities. From the mysterious and epic Central Highlands and the beloved Northwest mountains, to the people living in the sunny and windy Truong Son range, the mass cultural and artistic troupes from the provinces brought to the festival songs with the sound of the great mountains and forests and unique and eye-catching traditional costumes. All the most precious assets from villages across the country resonated and shone in the sacred land of Quang Tri, leaving many good emotions and impressions in the hearts of the public.

Dramatized on the background of traditional music, combining typical musical instruments of ethnic groups such as gongs, drums, panpipes, trumpets and daily living items of ethnic minorities, combined with the enchanting flower-spreading dances in the Spring Market of Mong girls from the highlands of Nghe An, the turban-fan dance of Thai girls from the West of Thanh Hoa; the strength and toughness of the Cor ethnic boys from Quang Nam, Quang Ngai or the soft, graceful hands of Ede girls (Dak Lak), Mo Nong girls (Dak Nong) and the mysterious gong dance of the K'Ho people from Lam Dong... have created a musical atmosphere imbued with the essence of the mountains and forests.

The ethnic costume show was organized and integrated into the mass art festival, with performances of everyday costumes, festival costumes and wedding costumes.

The costumes of the ethnic groups attending the festival have typical patterns and bright colors, vividly expressing the unique culture and extremely rich and vibrant life of each local ethnic community. In addition, the groups also performed excerpts introducing the festivals and unique cultural rituals of the local ethnic groups.

Immediately after the opening ceremony of the sports festival, 260 athletes from 11 provinces and cities competed in the following events: crossbow shooting, stick pushing, tug of war and slingshot shooting, creating exciting, attractive matches imbued with national identity, attracting a large number of people to come and cheer.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, shared that the sports competition is not only a fierce competition but also arouses love for traditional folk sports with rich identity, thereby, aiming to preserve and promote traditional values ​​of ethnic groups in modern life.

Within the framework of the Festival, there was a photo exhibition with the theme “Vietnam’s ethnic minorities accompanying the country’s development” and an exhibition “Cultural colors of Vietnam’s ethnic groups”; a display of specialty products and demonstrations of handicrafts such as brocade weaving, crafting of handicrafts, traditional musical instruments, etc.

Honoring identity, developing tourism

Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the 2024 Vietnam Ethnic Culture Festival honors good traditional cultural values, preserves and promotes the cultural identity of Vietnamese ethnic minorities in the unified and diverse culture of the community of 54 ethnic groups.

At the same time, the Festival is also an opportunity for cultural subjects, artisans, actors, and mass athletes of all ethnic groups to exchange experiences, introduce cultural beauty, and spread pride and sense of responsibility in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values ​​in the period of national integration and development.

This is also an important opportunity to promote the diverse culture of Vietnam's ethnic minorities in general, promote understanding, increase recognition of the unique cultural identity of each region, and make our country a notable highlight on the global cultural map with its own unique features.

Quang Tri province currently has two main ethnic minorities, the Bru-Van Kieu and Pa Co, accounting for about 14% of the province's population, living mainly in the mountainous districts of Huong Hoa and Dakrong. Quang Tri's ethnic minorities possess a rich culture with many good and humane traditional values.

Unique traditional festivals include the A Rieu Ping (grave digging) festival, the A Da (new rice celebration) festival, etc. These unique cultural identities have become lifestyles, standards, and good values ​​that are preserved and passed down from generation to generation.

At the same time, traditional crafts such as brocade weaving, broom making, weaving household items and utensils from indigenous materials are also preserved by the people. In addition, the typical culinary cultural values ​​with wines, cakes made from sticky rice, folk remedies, and many typical traditional art forms such as folk songs, folk dances, and folk music such as Caloi, Cha Chap, Oat, Xa Not... contribute to creating a complete picture of multi-colors, imbued with the unique identity of the culture of Vietnamese ethnic groups.

According to Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, the Vietnam Ethnic Culture Festival is an opportunity for Quang Tri province to promote and introduce unique cultural tourism products of the homeland and people of Quang Tri to domestic and international friends and tourists, linking the work of preserving, conserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage with sustainable tourism development./.
