At a press conference on the afternoon of October 5, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City said that in the first 9 months of the year, the city recorded 128,477 cases of quitting jobs at enterprises and requesting unemployment benefits. Compared to the same period in 2022, the number of cases requesting unemployment benefits increased by 9.3% (10,945 people).

However, compared to August, the number of workers who quit their jobs and applied for unemployment benefits in September decreased by 28.4% (4,849 people). This shows that the labor and employment situation is showing signs of positive improvement.

In the first 9 months of the year, the rate of workers requesting unemployment benefits without a degree or training certificate accounted for 52.84%. The majority of people who quit their jobs were in the processing and manufacturing industry (accounting for 36.68%); the service sector was 49.8%.

According to the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, to promptly connect labor supply and demand, localities have proactively coordinated with the City Employment Service Center to organize 107 sessions and job exchanges to provide recruitment information and job referral consultation.

In September, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City conducted a survey at 2,484 enterprises on the labor situation in the third quarter of 2023 compared to the second quarter of 2023.

The results show that businesses that maintain stability and have new increases account for 51% of the total number of responding businesses. Businesses with labor fluctuations (both increases and decreases) account for nearly 28%. More than 21% of responding businesses only reduce labor.

The reasons for the reduction in labor are mainly due to the agreement to terminate labor contracts (accounting for 47.4%), followed by the reason that businesses lack orders (accounting for 22.3%), and businesses reduce production (11.6%).
