The Japanese Foreign Ministry said that, witnessed by the two countries' defense ministers, Japanese Ambassador to Singapore Koji Ishikawa and Singaporean Deputy Defense Minister Melvyn Ong signed an agreement on the transfer of defense equipment and technology.
Specifically, this agreement, effective from the date of signing (June 3), has established a legal framework for the use of defense technologies and equipment transferred by both sides to each other, with the aim of carrying out cooperation projects, contributing to ensuring peace and security of the international community.
At the same time, the agreement is also one of the efforts to promote defense cooperation between Japan and Singapore, as well as maintain and develop the defense industry of the Northeast Asian country.
Thus, Singapore has officially become the 15th partner to sign an agreement with Japan on defense technology transfer, after countries such as the US, UK, Australia, Philippines... and most recently the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In September 2021, within the framework of the visit to Vietnam of the then Japanese Minister of Defense, Mr. Kishi Nobuo, the two sides also signed this agreement, thereby contributing to strengthening and tightening relations between the two countries, especially in the field of defense.
