(CLO) North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has declared that Ukraine's use of long-range weapons was the result of direct military intervention from the West, while affirming that Russia has the right to self-defense.
The remarks were made during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov on Friday, according to North Korean state news agency KCNA.

“It was the US and the West that made the Kiev regime attack Russian territory with their long-range weapons. Russia needs to take action to make the hostile forces pay the price,” Kim Jong Un stressed.
KCNA said the government, army and people of North Korea will always support Russia's policy of defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity against "hegemonic" actions from imperialist powers.
Kim Jong Un pledged to expand cooperation with Russia in all areas, including the military, under the comprehensive strategic partnership framework he signed with Russian President Vladimir Putin in June.
Since the summit in Russia last September, relations between Moscow and Pyongyang have improved significantly.
Kim Jong Un attended a reception hosted by the North Korean Defense Ministry for the Russian delegation, affirming his deep commitment to bilateral relations.
Ukraine recently used US-supplied ATACMS missiles to attack Russian territory, after receiving permission from the Biden administration. In response, Russia launched attacks on Ukraine's military and energy infrastructure.
Russian Defense Minister Belousov, during talks with his North Korean counterpart No Kwang Chol, stressed that the partnership agreement between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin will contribute to maintaining the balance of power in Northeast Asia.
