On the morning of June 24, at Nguyen Du Stadium (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), the 2023 Thanh Nien Open 3-cushion billiards tournament organized by the Thanh Nien Newspaper Journalists Association in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association took place at the opening ceremony and competed from round 32.
Attending the opening ceremony were journalist Tran Viet Hung (Chairman of the Thanh Nien Newspaper Journalists Association) and journalist Duong Vu Thong (Permanent Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association), co-Chairs of the Organizing Committee, along with many famous billiard players of Vietnam such as Ly The Vinh (1997 SEA Games Gold Medalist) and Duong Hoang Anh (2002 ASIAD Silver Medalist). In addition, Head of the Finance Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation Nguyen Thi Thuy was also present to encourage the players, and she personally provided cash support to the tournament organizing committee.

On the competition day of June 24, the rounds of 32, 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals were very exciting. In particular, in the round for the 4 strongest players, the audience witnessed 2 dramatic matches when the 2 champions of the Thanh Nien billiards tournament 2022, Nguyen Huy Hoang (VOV, 3-cushion carom) and Nguyen Minh Tam (Nhan Dan Newspaper, 3-cushion carom) faced off against 2 female guest players, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi and Luong Thi Thom.
With the spirit of a national champion and silver medalist in the 2023 SEA Games in 3-cushion carom, Yen Nhi, despite losing to Huy Hoang in the first game, made an excellent comeback to win with a final score of 2-1 and became the first athlete to participate in the final match.
In the final match, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi continued to defeat Nguyen Minh Tam to win the 2nd Thanh Nien Open 3-Cushion Billiards Championship - Viet Value Cup 2023.
After scoring the final score of the tournament, Yen Nhi expressed: "I'm actually a bit tired, but very happy. I was very nervous and this is not an easy championship to win. There are many athletes who play very well, not professionals, but not amateurs either. I also had to enter the final game many times to be able to win. Besides, I also needed a little luck to be able to lift the trophy."

Present at the tournament on the official competition day, journalist Duong Vu Thong shared: "Billiards is a very interesting sport, requiring concentration, technique, creativity and is loved by journalists, so the number of participants in the tournament is quite large. For those who work in organizing, when creating a playground with many participants, that is happiness. I see this as a tournament that suits the wishes of journalists, besides professional work, it is a place for them to satisfy their passion, exchange, increase solidarity and learn from each other.
This year, the tournament has been expanded with the addition of female players who were once on the national team at the SEA Games, making the atmosphere even more exciting. Players will have the opportunity to compete with professional athletes, which will improve their skills. In the coming years, the organizing committee has also considered expanding the tournament nationwide, not just limited to Ho Chi Minh City."
