According to UOB research, Vietnamese consumer sentiment is positive with more than 70% of those surveyed confident in the country's economic prospects.
Vietnamese consumers show the highest level of optimism about the country's economic outlook compared to consumers in the region, according to the UOB ASEAN Consumer Sentiment Study (ACSS) 2024.
UOB flagship research shows positive sentiment among Vietnamese consumers with over 70% of respondents expressing confidence in the country’s economic outlook over the next 6 to 12 months , after Vietnam witnessed a strong economic recovery in the first half of 2024.
In its latest economic forecast released last month, UOB also revised up Vietnam’s full-year GDP growth to 6.4%, up from its previous forecast of 5.9%, following a strong GDP growth in the third quarter of 2024 of 7.4%.
With borders reopening post-COVID-19, 71% of respondents in Vietnam said they had spent overseas within the ASEAN region in the past year, mainly for business and leisure trips – a rate that surpassed the regional average of 66% and was higher than rates in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
“Vietnamese consumers lead the region in optimism about the country’s economic situation, with this positive sentiment likely contributing to the increase in cross-border spending by Vietnamese consumers.
This reflects Vietnam's success in promoting stable economic growth and enhancing regional integration," said Mr. Paul Kim, Head of Retail Banking, UOB Vietnam.
ACSS is UOB’s flagship regional study that analyses consumer sentiment and trends in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. This is the fifth year the study has been conducted.
The study was conducted from May to June 2024, surveying 5,000 respondents across five countries, including 1,000 from Vietnam. This is also the second year that UOB has partnered with global management consultancy firm Boston Consulting Group on this study.
