Ms. Zhang Huixin (China) was born in 1954. Although she always had a passion for science and technology, due to circumstances, she had to drop out of school early and work in the fields to make a living. After many years of hardship, she realized that she needed to study further.

At the age of 22, she decided to register for the university entrance exam but the result was not as expected. She chose to study at an ordinary technical secondary school in Shanghai. However, she still hoped to be able to pass the university entrance exam in the future.

Her parents only wanted their daughter to finish high school, find a job, get married, and settle down. Life was difficult, so she finally listened to her parents and found a stable job. She became a teacher in the countryside.

Teaching the same lesson plan day after day bored her. She realized that her life had been confined to the small countryside for too long. Her parents constantly urged her to get married and arranged many matches for their daughter.

Since she did not want to get married yet, she made her own decision. At the age of 30, she applied to transfer to East China Normal University for higher education.

For five years, after every teaching session, she took the bus to the university. In this way, Ms. Zhang Huixin earned her bachelor's degree at the age of 35. However, she did not stop there. She always wanted to do something meaningful with her life.

Unexpected decision

In late 1990, she made a decision that shocked everyone. She quit her job as a teacher to become an insurance agent. Despite her parents' objections, Ms. Zhang decided to follow her own path.

She became a good, successful, and trusted employee in the insurance industry. In just two years, she topped the company's sales list and received a generous bonus and promotion.

At this moment, she realized her choice was right.

At 40, she bought an apartment in Shanghai and some other properties. But single life always made her feel lonely and isolated. She realized that she needed to live life to the fullest, to enjoy it so as not to waste it.

In 2009, Ms. Zhang Huixin retired at the age of 55. Instead of choosing to rest, she spent her time traveling around. At first, she cycled from Shanghai to Suzhou. The journey left her almost exhausted.

Feeling that her health was not up to the task of traveling by bicycle, she thought about traveling by car. In 2015, at the age of 61, this woman decided to learn to drive and got her license after two exams.

After getting her driver's license, Ms. Zhang Huixin decided to sell her house and many other properties to buy a car, "move her house" onto the car, and officially start her self-driving travel journey.

She traveled from Shanghai to Guangxi, then from Yunnan to Inner Mongolia, ready to travel across China. Her car was converted to look like a miniature house, with a bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen for cooking.

Behind the driver's seat is the bedroom. Inside the trunk is a refrigerator, pots and pans, etc. She prepares many books and paint brushes in the car to try to capture the beautiful images she passes by. When she is hungry, she stops the car on the side of the road, opens the stove and cooks for herself.

"I have overcome the constraints of time. Every day, I wake up to new scenery and new stories. During the journey, I meet many new like-minded friends," she shared.

Her journey was not always smooth. Vehicle breakdowns, getting lost, and bad weather were common occurrences. But before embarking on this journey, she equipped herself with basic survival and car repair skills.

Just like that, for the past 9 years, Ms. Zhang Huixin has traveled all over China, enjoying her retirement life in her own way. She said she will continue this journey for many more years, until her health is no longer good enough.

Few people believe that she is 70 years old and still so healthy and flexible. Many people wonder about her marriage. However, she said she has never regretted not getting married.

Everyone has only one life to live and she chose her own way of living.
