Turning to the Fatherland, overseas Vietnamese, including the young generation from Ninh Binh, expressed their infinite sorrow at the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Anh Ninh Duc Hoang Long (Ninh Binh city) is a famous young Opera artist living and working in Hungary. Recently, he had the honor of meeting and talking with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong twice.

Mr. Long recalled: "The first time I met him was during the Vietnam-Hungary state-level diplomatic meeting in October 2018. I was honored to perform to welcome the General Secretary and the high-ranking delegations of the two countries at the Hungarian Parliament.

After the performance, I had the opportunity to meet and talk directly with him. He said that he was very happy and proud and advised me to continue to strive to improve myself to build a good image of Vietnamese people in foreign lands, to be a cultural bridge between the two countries. Those words were not only encouragement but also a message full of love and responsibility that I will always remember.

Four months later, during my return trip to attend the Homeland Spring program with a delegation of outstanding overseas Vietnamese, I once again met him during the incense offering ceremony at Ngoc Son Temple (Hanoi). I still remember the emotional feeling when, among hundreds of overseas Vietnamese, he recognized me.

Having met him twice, each time left me with deep impressions and endless gratitude. It was a touching feeling when seeing his warm smile and simple gestures, full of concern, and a happiness and honor to have shaken his hand and talked with him. Those are memories that I will never forget in my whole life.

I feel his sincere affection and concern for the Vietnamese community living far from the Fatherland as well as the country's artists. This concern and encouragement has helped me and many others in the overseas Vietnamese community to be more attached to our roots and more proud of our country. I silently promise to always remember and carry out what he told me to be worthy of his trust, love and expectations for the younger generation" - artist Ninh Duc Hoang Long shared.

On his personal page, the artist from Ninh Binh also quietly replaced the photo of him receiving flowers from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong with simple images of the General Secretary to express his infinite condolences.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - a communist soldier, an outstanding leader, intellectual, brave, a great personality and a loyal follower of the Vietnamese people, breathed his last on July 19, 2024. Throughout his simple and humble life, he left profound lessons in the hearts of the people and the young generation today.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thanh Hoa, from Nho Quan district, currently living and working in the capital Dublin, representative of the Young Vietnamese Community in Ireland shared: In 2018, while studying and working in France, we were honored to meet General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at a meeting with the Vietnamese community there. Although the meeting was short, it left in our hearts a simple, sincere, humble, tolerant and very close leader.

These days, when hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing, not only me but many young Vietnamese people in Ireland are truly sad. Although we know that no one can escape the natural law of birth, aging, sickness and death, his passing is a great loss for the Vietnamese people.

We, the younger generation, learned many things from him, including the tradition of respecting teachers and remembering the source of our nation. During his lifetime, despite being the head of the country and busy with a thousand things, he always remembered the teachers who guided him. The letter he sent to his former teacher Dang Thi Phuc with neat and sincere handwriting moved me deeply.

The more we respect the morality and personality of the General Secretary, the more we, the younger generation, see our responsibility in preserving and promoting the precious traditions of the nation. I myself am currently working at Google Europe.

Following Uncle Ho's advice, "Overseas Vietnamese must unite, help each other and together look towards their homeland and country", I have been, am and will continue to support Vietnamese students in finding scholarship and study abroad programs to improve their skills and knowledge, become global citizens, and soon return to build and contribute to their homeland and country.

Every overseas Vietnamese living far from the Fatherland always remembers the example of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The legacy that the General Secretary left behind will always be deeply imprinted in the hearts of every Vietnamese person. In particular, the teachings and the simple, humble and courageous character of the late General Secretary will forever be a source of motivation for the younger generation to continue to study, strive, build and protect the country.
