Comprehensive deployment across all channels
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, affirmed: "In 2023, foreign affairs activities were vibrant and were a bright spot in the country's overall achievements. This has been affirmed by the highest leaders of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and very objectively assessed by international public opinion."
Contributing to that common success, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his thanks and emphasized the role of domestic news agencies and newspapers, not only accompanying and reporting news articles, but also promoting the results achieved as well as the participation and contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country's general foreign affairs, including the work of overseas Vietnamese.
Foreign affairs in 2023, including work for overseas Vietnamese, will be comprehensively deployed on all channels (Party, State, Government, Parliament, and people's diplomacy channels) and at all levels, from central to local.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, chaired the press meeting.
In foreign affairs activities, our leaders always take time to meet with the Vietnamese community in the host country, expressing their responsibility and affection for overseas Vietnamese; at the same time, requesting leaders of other countries to pay attention, support, and create favorable conditions for our compatriots to live, study, and work, so that they can contribute to both the host country and the country. Overseas Vietnamese are a very important bridge in the friendly relations between Vietnam and other countries.
Mobilizing and encouraging overseas Vietnamese to contribute both economically and intellectually
Currently, the Vietnamese community abroad has about 6 million people in 130 countries and territories, of which more than 80% are developed countries. The number of Vietnamese people going abroad to study, work, get married, invest, etc. continues to increase.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs shared: "The work on overseas Vietnamese includes two main elements and tasks that always go hand in hand, which are advocacy and mobilization. The resources of overseas Vietnamese are enormous, so to advocate and mobilize, it must be done through many different forms."
The Party and the State always pay special attention to our compatriots abroad, as shown in the documents of the Politburo, action programs, and projects of the Government, ministries, and branches. Regarding the amendment of legal policies, overseas Vietnamese can make recommendations and share useful experiences from countries with large overseas Vietnamese communities in areas related to overseas Vietnamese.
Not only creating conditions to mobilize and encourage overseas Vietnamese to contribute to the country both economically and intellectually, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the task of helping the overseas Vietnamese community increasingly have a role, position and consolidate their legal status in the host society.
Promoting the soft power of overseas Vietnamese
According to Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, the "soft power" of the Vietnamese community abroad is demonstrated through the fact that our overseas Vietnamese continue to maintain and enhance their position in the host country; cultural activities; actively connecting domestically and internationally with valuable gestures and actions.
"The soft power of the overseas Vietnamese community is broad, has spiritual value, and shares with the people in the country in times of difficulty and epidemics. Soft power demonstrates the spirit of great solidarity, national harmony, and promotes the combined strength of the nation," the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also informed that it is expected that the 2024 Homeland Spring program will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from February 1-2, 2024 (ie December 22-23, Quy Mao year).
This is an annual program for overseas Vietnamese, with the participation of leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, central and local departments, ministries and branches. The event is large-scale, attracting the participation of a large number of overseas Vietnamese from all over the world returning to their homeland to celebrate Tet, and is eagerly awaited by the overseas Vietnamese community every time Tet comes and Spring comes.
