Ho Chi Minh City: A mother reported that while taking her four daughters to sell candy on Nguyen Hue walking street, District 1, she lost two children, and the authorities mobilized many forces to search for them.
On the afternoon of April 7, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chi, 27 years old, residing in District 7 (mother of the two children), said that the two missing children (3-7 years old) were sisters among her four biological children. Every day, she usually takes her four children by motorbike to the walking street to sell candy from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

On the evening of April 3, she left her 10-year-old daughter holding her 9-month-old baby to sell candy on Dong Khoi Street, while she looked after the other two children on the opposite side of the street. At 7 p.m., she asked a beverage vendor to look after her two children and walked 100 meters to meet someone who was paying in installments.
"I borrowed some money. Every day before I finished selling at 7pm, I walked to where the person was waiting, paid, and then came back to take my child home," she said, adding that about 5 minutes later she returned but did not see her child. The mother asked her 10-year-old daughter who was selling across the street but did not know where the two children went. After that, she went to the ward to report.
She said that after giving birth, her two previous husbands did not live with her or provide for her. When the children went missing, she contacted them but they said they would not take care of the children. Her parents in Phu Yen are sick and old and cannot take care of the children.
Mr. Le Nguyen Viet Nam, Vice Chairman of Ben Nghe Ward (District 1), said that the locality has mobilized many forces to search for the two children. Currently, the union members are searching in nearby entertainment areas and parks, while the women's association is going to the hospital to check. Meanwhile, the police are extracting camera images from many areas and going to each neighborhood near the missing place to search.
At noon today, the ward received information that two children were missing with a stranger, but the authorities said that the camera images in the area did not record this image.
Nguyen Hue Walking Street is over 670 m long, starting from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee headquarters to Bach Dang Park and crossing Le Loi, Ton That Dam, Ngo Duc Ke, and Hai Trieu streets. The street has been in operation for 9 years, attracting many locals and tourists. Every Saturday and Sunday, the street is closed to vehicles from 6pm to 10pm, to reserve space for pedestrians.
