After many days of sheltering from heavy rain, on the afternoon of November 2, at Cam Nhuong fishing port (Cam Xuyen), boats were bustling again. Fishermen are hurriedly preparing for the upcoming long trips at sea with the hope of catching many valuable seafood.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (Xuan Bac village, Cam Nhuong commune) said: “Our boat has been stranded on the shore for the 6th day now. Luckily, the recent flood did not cause any damage. Now, taking advantage of the favorable weather after the flood, we have prepared fishing gear and fuel, ready for the first offshore trip of the month. According to the forecast, there will be many storms from now until the end of the year, so we have to take advantage of the opportunity to stay at sea to earn more income.”
According to Mr. Tuan, based on his many years of experience at sea, after storms it is often easier to catch a lot of shrimp and fish than on normal days, so everyone is eager to go out to sea, hoping for trips full of "sea blessings" and especially to sell at high prices so that people can have more money to spend and earn more.
Going out to sea after storms often helps fishermen catch many valuable seafood.
Chairman of Cam Nhuong Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Hung informed: "Taking advantage of the calm sea days after the flood, in the past 2 days, many fishermen have gone to sea to search for seafood resources. Through observation, on these trips, fishermen mainly caught shrimp, crab, mackerel...; some lucky boats caught mackerel, yellowfin tuna, earning about 2 - 5 million VND/boat. Currently, there are nearly 150 boats going to sea, so seafood resources will be more abundant in the coming days."
At Cua Sot fishing port (Loc Ha), the atmosphere is more bustling and urgent than ever. Fishermen are busy preparing food, fuel and fishing gear to get ready to go out to sea. Many fishermen said that after a storm, it is easier to catch shrimp and fish than usual, so as soon as the sun comes up, they set off.
Fishermen at Cua Sot fishing port are busy refueling, preparing ice... to go out to sea.
Fisherman Hoang Van Viet (Son Bang village, Thach Kim commune) excitedly said: "The weather has now stabilized again, all fishermen are eager to go to sea. The life of fishermen is closely linked to the sea and the boat. Going to sea and sticking to the sea not only brings income to the family but also brings joy to those who follow the profession of water. This sea trip, my boat plans to go for 4 days."
All fishermen hope for calm seas and favorable winds to sail.
While busy preparing fishing gear, fisherman Le Van Dan (Nam Son village, Thinh Loc commune) said: "It rained a lot in October, the sea was constantly rough, so we couldn't go to sea much, so our income also decreased. Now the weather is sunny, the sea is calm, so we have to take advantage of going out to sea. This trip, I and 5 other fishermen are expected to go for about 5 days, fishing in the sea area about 40 nautical miles from shore... We are all hoping to have a safe and successful trip, catching a lot of fish and shrimp."
Fishermen prepare supplies for a long sea trip.
Mr. Than Quoc Te - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Ha Tinh Fishing Ports and Wharves said: “After many days of anchoring at Cua Sot fishing port for shelter, boats from small to large have gone out to sea to exploit seafood. Accordingly, from November 1 to now, more than 100 boats have gone out to sea and the number will increase in the coming days. Before allowing boats to resume fishing activities, the unit has come to inspect and remind boat owners to reinforce and repair damaged parts (if any) to ensure safety during fishing.”
According to Mr. Than Quoc Te, November is the key month of the storm season. Therefore, when going offshore, fishermen need to pay special attention to closely monitoring weather reports to take measures to prevent natural disasters. At the same time, when receiving forecasts of an upcoming monsoon, heavy rains... they need to quickly return to the mainland to take shelter safely.
