“I am deeply saddened to receive the sad news of the passing of our colleague, friend and brother, Walter Harms,” Paraguayan Vice President Pedro Alliana said on social media platform X.
Images on social media showed the wreckage burning in a field. Police said the plane hit a tree on takeoff and burst into flames as it hit the ground.
In July 2018, a Paraguayan minister, a deputy minister and two others were killed when their small plane crashed into a swampy area south of the country's capital.
Small plane crashes have become a regular occurrence around the world as more and more people use them as personal transportation. Most recently, 12 people were killed on October 29 in a small plane crash in the Amazon, Brazil.
