16 years old, 28 broken bones, 8 surgeries... numbers that even though she wants to forget, Lai Thi Ban - Quang's mother cannot forget.
Quang is the youngest of three children in Thach Son commune (Thach Ha). Quang's mother is a farmer, and his father used to be a worker but unfortunately had an accident and lost his ability to work. All the worries and hardships fell on the shoulders of his hard-working mother.

However, the challenges seem to be not enough, not as lucky as his siblings, little Nguyen Thanh Quang has congenital brittle bone disease. Just a fall or a slight collision can cause Quang to break his bones. Therefore, from the time he was born until now, every year, Ms. Ban has to travel back and forth with her son to the hospital, sometimes the wound becomes infected so the treatment lasts for months... Having been injured too many times, his health is weak, Quang's legs gradually atrophy, all activities depend on his mother.
Ms. Ban shared: “When my son had brittle bone disease, my husband and I were heartbroken. Therefore, the more we loved him, the more we tried to overcome difficulties and hardships to be a support for him. Despite the pain, Quang still wanted his mother to let him go to school like his friends. Seeing him eager to study, I felt like I had more strength. Regardless of the weather, I took him to class on time every day.”

The image of a small boy being carried on his mother's shoulder or sitting on her back every day to class has become familiar to his classmates and people in Thach Son commune in particular and Thach Ha in general.
Not letting down his mother, Quang not only loved to study but also studied well. Since he was a primary school student, in addition to studying all subjects, he showed great interest in Math and English. When he had the opportunity to access computers and the internet, Quang seemed to have found the light of his life. And that is how his dream of becoming a programmer began.

“I had access to computers at school and every time my older siblings went to college and brought them home, I took the opportunity to borrow them to study more. Studying online helped me accumulate a lot of knowledge and find my dream. Becoming a programmer is not only suitable for people with poor health like me, but it also helps me satisfy my passion for numbers and algorithms,” Quang confided.
To be able to study well, Quang always concentrates and listens attentively during class. During recess, because he cannot move around like his friends, Quang takes advantage of reading and memorizing the knowledge he has learned, and finding exercises to do. When he misses school due to a fall and has to go to the hospital, he asks his teachers and friends for guidance so he can study on his own. Thanks to that, despite being at a disadvantage compared to his friends, Quang always achieves top academic results in the class.
In his first year at Ly Tu Trong High School, Thanh Quang has achieved many remarkable results. He won third prize in the National IOE English Contest; third prize in the national UIT code contest; third prize in the provincial excellent student in Informatics for grade 10; third prize in the provincial excellent student in English for grade 11 (skipping a grade); first prize in the Thach Ha District Youth Informatics Contest in 2023...
At the end of April 2023, the school where Thanh Quang is studying - Ly Tu Trong High School held a special ceremony to honor the determined student. On the mockup, the words "Commemoration ceremony for student Nguyen Thanh Quang for his excellent achievements in the 2022 - 2023 school year" were enough to describe the image of the school's special student. All teachers and hundreds of students of the school were able to calm down to better understand the story of Thanh Quang's determination to live and his studious spirit.

As for class 10A7, Thanh Quang is not only a source of pride but also a role model for the whole class to follow. Although he has to sit in one place and cannot participate in extracurricular activities like his classmates, Quang has become the center of the class during recess. At times like these, his classmates gather around to listen to Quang share new knowledge and stories that he has "picked up" on the internet or ask Quang to explain the exercises that he does not understand.
Nguyen Luong Dung - Quang's classmate shared: "From Quang, we learned extraordinary courage, determination to overcome illness and the will to learn. Quang is not only excellent in Math, IT, English but also studies all subjects equally. Therefore, Quang often shares his learning methods with us, and he is also willing to help other friends to improve their learning together."
His classmates are ready to be Quang's "legs".
With Quang, it seems that the class 10A7 has become more united, close-knit and loving towards each other. According to Ms. Tran Thi Thuy - the homeroom teacher of the class, since the beginning of the school year, when she learned that there was a classmate with brittle bone disease, she instructed the whole class to always share and support him. Fortunately, all of the students understood and always accompanied Quang. Not only did they help Quang move from class to practice rooms or go to the school yard to attend the flag-raising ceremony, etc., but they also created a lively and harmonious classroom environment for Quang to overcome his inferiority complex.
“Coming to class, Thanh Quang is not only a well-behaved, polite, and studious student, but also inspires the spirit of learning, compassion, sharing, and love for his friends,” Ms. Thuy proudly said.
Overcoming adversity, becoming a special student in the hearts of teachers and friends, Quang only smiled modestly: "I feel lucky to have family and relatives by my side, and to be cared for and supported by teachers and friends. I will always try my best to fulfill my dream, not to disappoint the trust and expectations that everyone has placed in me."
