Passion for rice
If we only look at the spacious and spacious house designed in the style of a villa, the interior of the house is also all modern furniture of Mr. Le Van Thuyen's family in Don Boi area (Nam Sach town), perhaps no one would think that this is the house of a real old farmer. Everything is made from rice plants and the diligence, creativity, and dynamism of farmers in this 4.0 era. Over a cup of fragrant spring tea, we listened to Mr. Thuyen tell the story of growing rice to raise his children to study, and also from growing rice that helped his family become rich.
Originally a farmer's son, although he tried his hand at livestock farming for a good income, he always had the idea of getting rich from rice. Since 2017, he has started to specialize in cultivating 10 hectares of rice fields and actively applied technical advances to the production process from land preparation, sowing, pest control to harvesting. He is always a pioneer in implementing new production methods such as planting tray seedlings, spraying pesticides with drones, footprint-free fields, etc.
Economic efficiency through each crop and each year is the driving force that urges Mr. Thuyen to increase the rice growing area, sometimes up to 18 hectares, each crop harvests an average of 27-30 tons of rice with an annual income of 300 million VND.
It is worth mentioning that with his experience, Mr. Thuyen has actively advised and guided people in the village and outside the commune to apply it to achieve high productivity and make full use of the land for production. Mr. Thuyen said: “As a farmer's son, I have been passionate about rice since I was young, from enthusiasm to passion. If I can do it, if I succeed, I will encourage people to grow rice to achieve high productivity, then people will listen and follow. I hope that the year of At Ty 2025 will have favorable weather and wind so that farmers can continue to have bumper harvests.”
Over 70 years old still eager to work
This Tet, Mr. Nguyen Khac Chuc's family in Tran Xa village, Nam Hung commune is more prosperous than every year thanks to the efforts and determination to get rich of this farmer who is over 70 years old. Taking us to visit the farm of over 4,000 m², between the areas for raising sows and pigs for meat are rows of beautifully trimmed bonsai pots, a neatly planned garden with grapefruit and orange trees laden with bright yellow fruit, and even a red peach tree in the spring, Mr. Chuc said happily: ''I built a park-style barn. In 2024, pork prices were stable for a long time, so pig farmers had a very good income, my family and the people were very excited.
This farm was built by Mr. Chuc's family 7 years ago according to the VietGAP model with an investment capital of over 3 billion VND. With experience in raising pigs, actively learning about experience, pig care techniques, and understanding the raising process, Mr. Chuc's pigs are well cared for. During the African swine fever outbreak a few years ago, while many farms were in dire straits, even bankrupt, his entire herd of pigs was still growing normally.
His family regularly maintains about 40 sows and 300 pigs, and sells 4-5 tons every month. Therefore, it is normal for his family to earn billions of dong in profit each year. Mr. Chuc happily said: 2024 is a favorable year for livestock farming, with high and stable prices. During this At Ty Tet holiday, he just sold 6 tons of pork. After Tet, he also sold over 6 tons of pigs.
Developing a comprehensive economic model
Farmers who have risen to become rich right in their hometowns are like beautiful flowers in a brilliant spring flower garden. In Cam La village, Dong Lac commune, there is such a "flower". With dynamism, grasping market demand, along with maintaining the VAC model and renting rooms, Mr. Tran Duc Binh's family also opened a ham production facility. Taking the trust and health of consumers as a measure of prestige and product quality, Mr. Binh's ham has a delicious taste and is favored by customers.
Not only ensuring quality and food hygiene and safety, Mr. Binh also creates ham, sausage, and sausage products to meet the needs and tastes of customers. Currently, his family's ham and sausage products Thanh Binh have been recognized as 3-star OCOP products. To prepare for the recent Tet holiday, having enough goods to serve customers' orders, Mr. Binh invested in more sausage making machines, ham grills, skin slicers, meat grinders, and hired more workers to produce 3-4 quintals of ham, sausage, and sausages of all kinds every day, 3-4 times higher than usual.
With the comprehensive economic development model, on average each year Mr. Binh's household earns over 3 billion VND in revenue, with a profit of approximately 1 billion VND.
At the beginning of the new year, listening to the stories of getting rich of the farmers in Nam Sach district, suddenly a feeling of elation and intoxication welled up in my heart, as if I had just finished a cup of strong spring wine. Those are just 3 out of 6,619 good farming and business households at all levels in 2024 in the district. They, the hard-working, diligent farmers and the minds that dare to think, dare to do, are self-reliant and stand firm in the face of difficulties and challenges, have contributed to making the homeland and the country flourish with spring energy, firmly entering the era of national development.
