According to information at the end of January 28 (29th of Tet) from the Ministry of Finance, shopping demand on the 29th of Tet is not as high as previous years and has decreased compared to previous days.
“People who go shopping still mainly focus on a number of items serving the worship and consumption needs during Tet such as fruits, vegetables, fresh foods, candies, alcohol, soft drinks...”, said a representative of the Ministry of Finance.
At traditional markets, many vendors still sell goods until noon on January 28 to serve people's shopping needs. In general, prices of Tet items do not fluctuate much. Some fresh foods have increased in some places, while others have remained stable.
According to the Ministry of Finance, supermarket systems and shopping malls in big cities continue to be the places chosen by consumers, creating peace of mind for buyers about the origin, brand, as well as food hygiene and safety standards, not to mention the prices of some goods being "stabilized".
“Most supermarkets close late in the afternoon and evening of the 29th of Tet. Some supermarkets have planned to stay open throughout Tet, such as Aone; many supermarkets will only be closed on the first day of Tet. There has been no shortage of goods or price hikes, and there has been a sharp reduction in speculation and hoarding during Tet. Prices of goods at supermarkets on the 29th of Tet are quite stable, with many items still on sale. Prices of some ornamental plants such as peach and kumquat trees have decreased compared to previous days,” said a representative of the Ministry of Finance.

At wholesale markets, the amount of goods coming to the market decreased significantly compared to the previous day because many small traders stopped doing business for Tet.
“The prices of poultry meat products are relatively stable, while seafood products have increased due to the suspension of fishing, while the prices of vegetables and fruits have mostly decreased due to retailers reducing prices to clear inventory. Fabrics, cosmetics, clothing, etc. have relatively few customers; prices of items serving Tet are stable, fresh food products sometimes increase slightly according to consumer demand,” said a representative of the Ministry of Finance.
The Ministry of Finance forecasts that market prices on the first day of Tet, the first day of the new year, will not have unusual fluctuations because the demand for shopping on the first day of the year is not high, most people have shopped and stocked up before Tet. The supply of goods is still guaranteed to meet demand because in large provinces and cities, some supermarkets and stores serve throughout Tet and some stores will also gradually open in early Spring from around noon on the first day of Tet to serve the demand for shopping for essential goods. "According to the annual rule, due to people's need to go to temples and go out at the beginning of the year, large entertainment venues and spiritual areas across the country will attract a large number of visitors to visit and have fun during the upcoming Tet holidays. Therefore, it is predicted that prices of services such as parking, food and drink, and offerings for incense burning will likely increase," said a representative of the Ministry of Finance. Some carbonated soft drinks, beer and soft drinks near tourist attractions run by small businesses serving the needs of spring tourists may increase in price. |
