On the morning of June 2, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tien, Head of the ENT Department (Quang Nam General Hospital), said that doctors had just successfully performed endoscopic surgery to remove a foreign object, a coin, from the esophagus of TBQ (10 years old, in Tra Ly village, Tam Anh Bac commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam).
According to Dr. Tien, after successfully removing the coin, the child's health is now stable and he was discharged home that same morning.
Previously, at 7:55 p.m. on June 1, TBQ was taken to the emergency room by his family in a state of choking, chest pain, and difficulty breathing.
Through examination and chest X-ray, doctors discovered a foreign object, a coin, in the chest area D1-D2. The patient was then given emergency tests and transferred to the Anesthesia - Surgery department. Here, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tien and his team performed endoscopic surgery, successfully removing the foreign object, a coin, safely.
Relatives said that on the evening of June 1, Q. put a coin in his mouth to play and accidentally swallowed it.
Doctor Tien also recommends that parents should not let children hold toys in their mouths, as if accidentally swallowed, they will become foreign objects in the digestive tract or airways; if not treated promptly, they will be life-threatening.
Recently, the ENT Department of Quang Nam General Hospital has successfully treated many cases of foreign body aspiration.
