Since the night of January 7, the Russian military has launched airstrikes against various regions of Ukraine. On January 8, SF reported that it was a group attack using high-precision missiles targeting Ukrainian military-industrial complexes in many regions.
Dozens of explosions were heard in the Odessa, Kiev, Kharkov, Khmelnitsky, Zhitomir regions, as well as in the cities of Zaporozhie, Krivoy Rog, Dnepropetrovsk. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that Russian missiles attacked important military and industrial facilities across Ukraine.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces intercepted 26 out of 60 targets, but this did not include 7 missiles launched from the S-300/S-400 air defense systems, no Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, no X-22 cruise missiles, no Iskander-M missiles, and no X-31P missiles. Ukraine admits that this kill rate is significantly low.
Local Ukrainian officials have confirmed damage to key infrastructure, military-industrial facilities in the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Khmelnitsky regions.
Russian missile strikes in the past hours have resulted in the destruction of a railway track used for military needs, a military warehouse and a drone workshop hidden inside a shopping mall in the Krivyi Rih area.
During the attack, the Russian military also carried out airstrikes on the Starokonstantinov military airport in the Khmelnitsky region. Explosions were also recorded in the village of Shepetinovka, which serves as a major transportation hub for weapons of the Ukrainian forces.
In Dnipro, Russian drone strikes damaged several buildings.
In Zaporozhie, local authorities have also confirmed damage to some infrastructure. As a result of the airstrikes, the city suffered temporary power and water outages.
Odessa region hit by drone attack. Explosions were heard in Ilyichevsk (Chernomorsk), Belyaevsky district, Ovidiopolsky district and the city of Odessa. Shkolny airport and port infrastructure were reportedly damaged.
Large-scale Russian airstrikes have caused severe energy supply problems across Ukraine. Several major energy facilities in the country have been damaged over the past week. In addition, extreme weather in recent days has also had serious consequences for Ukraine’s energy systems.
