However, after monitoring and supervision, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information discovered that this platform was broadcasting many projects of the television program type, such as reality and sports programs, cuisine, travel, love and wedding.

Therefore, from December 23, 2024, Netflix is only allowed to provide movies that have been classified and notified to the state management agency of cinema, and will not provide TV programs in Vietnam.

Netflix has also agreed to comply with the request to remove all infringing content. The company also pledged to only distribute films that have been censored and reported in accordance with cinema law.

In Vietnam, online entertainment platforms such as Netflix, Apple, Amazon, Tencent or Iqiyi, when operating, need to clearly define their business model as film screening services, television services or both. If it is only film, the platform must comply with the revised Cinema Law and remove television content. If it is television, it must comply with regulations on management, provision and use of radio and television services, including the requirement to open a company in Vietnam.

After the regulations on the use of radio and television services came into effect, some large platforms such as Amazon Prime withdrew from Vietnam due to the reason of "small market and unsuitable business model".
