Son La province currently has 2,697 irrigation works, including: 110 reservoirs, 1,149 built dams, 1,035 temporary dykes, 05 irrigation works for dry crops; main water intake: 190 works. In the first 9 months of this year, Son La Irrigation Sub-Department has managed and used the following irrigation works after investment: Ban Mong irrigation dam; Na San irrigation system; Ta Lai commune irrigation lake, Moc Chau district.
At the same time, develop and submit to the Provincial People's Committee for promulgation of technical and economic norms in the management and exploitation of irrigation works of 3 reservoirs by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Advise and carry out procedures for handover and receipt of assets; place orders, assign tasks of management, exploitation and protection of the above 3 works to Son La Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd.
In addition, the Department renovates lakes and dams to ensure safety during the rainy and flood season and to meet the water storage needs during the dry season; regularly repairs and dredges canals to serve people's production; continues to urge Son La Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Company Limited to implement irrigation works maintenance projects in the province approved by the Provincial People's Committee. Improve the efficiency of management and exploitation of irrigation works to serve the restructuring of the agricultural sector; develop multi-purpose irrigation to serve agricultural and industrial production, water supply for people and other economic sectors:
In addition to ensuring proactive irrigation water supply for over 34,000 hectares of agricultural land, irrigation works have contributed to flood prevention, drainage, reducing human and property losses and serving socio-economic activities. Creating conditions for crop diversification, shifting economic structure, crop structure, improving land use efficiency, improving land, improving the environment, applying new technical advances in cultivation to increase production value per unit area.
Thanks to the irrigation system, it has created conditions for redistributing natural water resources, improving soil, regulating water flow, maintaining water resources in the dry season, reducing floods in the rainy season, improving the ecological environment and living environment of residents, creating beautiful landscapes such as: Chieng Khoi lake in Yen Chau district, Suoi Chieu lake in Phu Yen district, Ban Mong lake in Son La city, Tien Phong lake and Chieng Dong lake in Mai Son district.
Regarding the results of applying advanced irrigation and water-saving for upland crops in the province, the area applying advanced irrigation and water-saving in the province is about 917 hectares, mainly applied to vegetables and local key fruit trees with drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation being the main types. There are about 80 enterprises and cooperatives applying advanced irrigation and water-saving in the province. The estimated investment cost by enterprises, cooperatives and people in 2022-2023 is about 10 billion VND.
