Improving the effectiveness of cooperation in the cashew industry between Vietnam and Ivory Coast

The workshop was held directly in Ivory Coast, combined with online connection to connecting points in Vietnam. At the Binh Phuoc connection point, the workshop was attended by leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and representatives of related departments and branches.

In 2025, Vietnam and Ivory Coast will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1975-2025). Vietnam and Ivory Coast are both countries with dynamically developing economies and active international integration. In terms of economy, bilateral trade turnover is constantly increasing. Ivory Coast is Vietnam's largest trading partner in Africa in 2023. Along with that, Ivory Coast is also the leading supplier of raw cashew nuts to Vietnam and Vietnam is the largest importer of raw cashew nuts from Ivory Coast.

With the desire to promote in-depth cooperation, increasing efficiency and sustainable development, the workshop mentioned two main topics, including: Potential and challenges in enhancing cashew trade cooperation between Vietnam and Ivory Coast; Towards a creative, effective and sustainable cooperation model in the cashew sector.

In an open, sincere and trusting atmosphere, the two sides had comprehensive exchanges, discussions and proposals. Thereby, the strengths and limitations in cashew cooperation were identified, the needs related to the cashew industry were clarified; at the same time, mechanisms were proposed, experience sharing and technology transfer methods between agencies and enterprises of the two sides were proposed.

Attending the workshop, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Van Phuong, representing the leaders of Binh Phuoc province - the largest cashew producing and processing locality in Vietnam, spoke about the experience and needs of Vietnamese localities in cashew cooperation with Ivory Coast and African countries. In the current trade situation with climate change and increasing demand for cashew, many challenges are posed, Binh Phuoc is very interested in favorable conditions for Vietnamese cashew businesses in general and Binh Phuoc in particular in proactively importing raw cashews to serve cashew production and processing. In addition, the province also thanked the support of central ministries, branches, relevant associations and the close coordination of international friends, especially Ivory Coast.

Chairman of Binh Phuoc Cashew Association Vu Thai Son also presented some opinions and suggestions. In particular, he expressed his hope that in the upcoming cashew season, Ivory Coast should have clear policies on raw cashew exports so that Vietnamese businesses can grasp the situation and have appropriate directions.

The workshop is a forum for ministries, branches, associations, localities and businesses of the two countries to exchange practical experiences and solutions in cashew production and processing.
