On the morning of October 24, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) coordinated with the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Central Propaganda Department and the Vietnam Journalists Association to organize the Forum "Press and Enterprises Accompanying for a Prosperous and Happy Vietnam for the second time in 2024".

This year’s forum has the theme of Improving the quality of economic and business information in the press with the participation of representatives of press management agencies, press agencies, business leaders, business associations; economic experts, lawyers, lecturers, reporters, journalists, etc.

At the Forum, delegates discussed and shared issues related to improving the quality and effectiveness of economic and business information in the press to promote business development and contribute to the country's economic development.

Improving the quality and effectiveness of press information and propaganda on the economy, businesses and entrepreneurs, ensuring objectivity, honesty and fairness, encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit in society, limiting negative phenomena and false and inaccurate information affecting businesses is of great significance to both businesses and the press as it makes an important contribution to facilitating the business environment as well as building a modern, professional and humane press.

Speaking at the opening of the Forum, VCCI Chairman Pham Tan Cong affirmed: "In order to support and motivate the business community to overcome difficulties and challenges, promote their core role, thereby contributing to the successful implementation of the country's development goals by 2030, with a vision to 2045, VCCI recognizes that at this time it is necessary to strongly arouse the entrepreneurial spirit and spirit in society and in the business community, igniting the aspiration to bring our country into a "new era - the era of the Vietnamese people's rise, seizing the historical opportunities that are opening up to develop a prosperous and happy country.

Therefore, the role of the press and media in inspiring and arousing business spirit is extremely important. The spiritual factor has always been a special strength of the Vietnamese revolution and the Vietnamese people, helping our country gain great achievements in the history of revolutionary struggle as well as in building and defending the Fatherland today. In particular, the vibrant business spirit and atmosphere during the renovation period has contributed significantly to creating the transformation and outstanding economic development of Vietnam."

Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper , Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, assessed that the press has made a positive contribution to raising awareness of brands and products of Vietnamese enterprises. Thanks to the press, consumers know and trust Vietnamese products more, helping businesses approach the market and adjust their business strategies accordingly.

The press also acts as a bridge between businesses and the State, helping to reflect market information and the aspirations of businesses. The press is not only a channel for policy propaganda, but also helps businesses respond to policies, becoming an independent voice contributing to the adjustment of economic policies.

However, the relationship between the press and businesses needs to be built on a more sustainable cooperation foundation to support each other's development.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam affirmed that although social media is increasingly developing, the press is still the mainstream source of information. However, the relationship between the press and businesses is not really solid, especially when many businesses are not interested in building brand image through the press, considering the press as just an advertising channel or even a nuisance. If this relationship is not built on the basis of transparency and cooperation, both sides will suffer losses.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Lam, many large enterprises have not yet invested properly in communications, making their relationship with the press isolated and ineffective. At the same time, a part of the press has not yet exploited its full potential in supporting businesses, especially small and medium enterprises. Therefore, both sides need to coordinate to enhance social responsibility and create high-quality information products.

Sharing her opinion on human resources for the press, Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao - Deputy Director of the Press Department, Ministry of Information and Communications said that this is one of the top issues that need to be concerned by newsrooms. According to statistics, of the 21,000 journalists granted cards, about 39% have degrees in journalism, the rest are in other majors, including economics, however, there are not many good reporters writing about economics.

"In fact, journalism is a special profession, but reporters writing about economics should have knowledge of economics, those writing about stocks should have knowledge of stocks... All different fields must have background knowledge to serve their expertise, especially economic information requires more in-depth knowledge," Ms. Thao cited.

Ms. Thao recommends that editorial offices should also use a system of expert reviewers and critics, as well as increase interaction with readers to have information that exploits topics in accordance with the principles, as well as have critical knowledge.

The program aims to encourage and motivate journalists to join and share in building a favorable business environment for the development of enterprises and the country's economy.

The second forum "Press and Enterprises Accompanying for a Prosperous and Happy Vietnam" in 2024 is an activity within the Work Coordination Program signed on July 25, 2023 between the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to strengthen cooperation between enterprises and the press, build a business environment, a media environment to promote the development of enterprises and the press together, contributing to building a prosperous, civilized and happy country.

On October 10, 2023, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 41-NQ/TW on "Building and promoting the role of Vietnamese entrepreneurs in the new period", which raised the issue of "Promoting the role of press agencies in informing, propagating and encouraging Vietnamese entrepreneurs".

This affirms the Party's viewpoint on the important role of the press in developing the team of entrepreneurs, enterprises and developing the country's economy. The Forum is a practical activity contributing to the implementation of this Resolution.
