Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024 opens on March 16

On the afternoon of February 21, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of Dien Bien province to provide information about Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024.

Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024 has the theme "Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experience" associated with the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 / May 7, 2024), expected to help Dien Bien's socio-economy flourish, contributing to promoting the development of Vietnam's tourism.

Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024 will have 169 programs and events in response, including 13 national programs and events organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and central ministries, departments and branches. Dien Bien province will organize 28 programs, events and activities. 128 events and activities will be organized by 33 provinces and centrally run cities.

The highlight of the Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024 is the opening ceremony, associated with the organization of the 2024 Ban Flower Festival, with the theme: "Returning to the Ban Flower Land" held on March 16 at 7-5 Square, Dien Bien Phu city; a special art program and high-altitude fireworks display held on the evening of May 6 at 7-5 Square; the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory held on the morning of May 7 at Dien Bien Provincial Stadium; the Northwest - Dien Bien Tourism Fair, the National Food Festival 2024 held in August 2024 at 7-5 Square; the Northwest - Dien Bien Industry and Trade Fair 2024 in the second quarter of 2024; the closing ceremony of the National Tourism Year held in December 2024...

Assessing the tourism potential of Dien Bien province, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy said: Dien Bien is a historical land associated with the Dien Bien Phu victory. In addition, Dien Bien is also a land rich in potential for resort tourism and health care.

Mr. Vu A Bang, Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee informed: Tourism associated with historical and spiritual relics is one of the three pillars and strengths of Dien Bien tourism. Therefore, these tourism products continue to be promoted during the National Tourism Year. In addition, Dien Bien province will build many new tourism products, including exploiting the tourism route with Northeast Laos. 2023 was a breakthrough year for Dien Bien tourism with approximately 1.1 million visitors and revenue of about 1,700 billion VND. It is expected that in 2024, Dien Bien province will attract 1.3 million visitors, with total revenue estimated at 2,200 billion VND.
