(CLO) US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz that the two countries will consult closely on the ongoing situation in Syria, according to a statement from the Pentagon on Wednesday.
"Secretary Austin emphasized the importance of close consultation between the United States and Israel on events in Syria," the Pentagon said in a statement.

According to the Pentagon, Mr. Austin informed Mr. Katz that Washington is closely monitoring developments in Syria and supports a peaceful, inclusive political transition.
International security experts say that coordination between the US and Israel on the Syria issue is necessary to ensure regional security, especially when Syria remains a hotspot with the presence of many hostile forces.
According to analysis by political researchers, this call for close consultation also reflects America's caution in not wanting to be drawn into a larger conflict in the Middle East without thorough preparation.
