(CLO) The United States will suspend military aid to Ukraine days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a verbal spat with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, a White House official confirmed on Monday.
The official said the US was pausing and reviewing aid as it seeks a peace deal to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
According to reports from Bloomberg and Fox News, the pause will last until Mr. Trump determines that Ukrainian leaders have demonstrated a good-faith commitment to peace.
"This is not a permanent end to aid, it is just a pause," Fox News quoted a Trump administration official as saying.

Bloomberg reported that any US military equipment not currently in Ukraine would be halted, including weapons in transit on planes and ships or waiting in transit zones in Poland.
The report also said Mr Trump ordered Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to implement the pause. Just hours earlier, Mr Trump told reporters at the White House that Mr Zelenskyy “should have appreciated” Washington’s assistance.
Meanwhile, Russia has expressed its approval of the US's shift in stance on the war in Ukraine, as well as its foreign policy towards Russia. "The new administration is rapidly changing all foreign policy configurations. This largely fits with our vision," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state television.
On Monday, the United States took another step toward thawing relations with Russia by considering whether to lift sanctions on some Russian entities and individuals.
The White House has directed the Treasury and State Departments to draw up a list of sanctions that could be lifted. US officials are expected to discuss the proposals with Russian representatives in the coming days as part of broader diplomatic and economic talks.
