On May 29, the US State Department voiced concern about the Israeli government's move to legalize an illegally built settlement on occupied Palestinian territory.

In a statement the same day, the US State Department stated: "We are deeply concerned by the recent decision by the Israeli government to allow citizens to permanently settle at the Homesh outpost in the northern West Bank."
According to the ministry, this "is inconsistent with former Prime Minister Sharon's written commitment to the Bush administration in 2004 and the current Israeli government's commitment to the Biden administration."
The statement said that the expansion of settlements undermines the two-state solution on the ground, exacerbates tensions and further damages trust between the parties.
On May 21, the Israeli army decided to allow settlers to return to the Homesh settlement, which was cleared in 2005.
A new building has been built at the illegal outpost as part of the Israeli government's move to legalize the settlement.
