(Dan Tri) - Vinh Tuy 2 Bridge merges with Vinh Tuy 1 Bridge and expands it to 8 lanes, helping traffic flow smoothly even during rush hours, when it is most congested.
The old Vinh Tuy Bridge has 53 spans, a total length of 3.5km and a width of 19.25m. The starting point intersects with Tran Quang Khai - Nguyen Khoi - Minh Khai streets (Hai Ba Trung district) and the ending point intersects with Long Bien - Thach Ban streets (Long Bien district).
Vinh Tuy Bridge Phase 2 opened to traffic on August 30, merging with Vinh Tuy Bridge 1 and expanding to 8 lanes, 4 lanes on each side including 3 car lanes and 1 mixed lane.
Dan Tri reporters have recorded traffic on the bridge over the past 7 days, especially during rush hours. The roads leading to the bridge and the bridge surface are no longer congested like before, and vehicles can move easily.
Reporters recorded the reality in the following time frames: Morning of August 31 when the barrier was opened for traffic; afternoon of August 31 and morning of September 1 when people from Hanoi flocked to the provinces for the holiday; afternoon of September 4 when people from the provinces flocked to Hanoi; morning and afternoon of September 5 when people went to work on the first day after the holiday as well as students went to school to start the new school year...
The opening of phase 2 of the bridge reduces traffic congestion on the bridge but causes vehicles to move faster, pushing them to the next intersections, causing slight congestion at the above intersections.
The approach roads at both ends of the bridge are congested during the two peak hours of the day, from 7:30 am to 9:00 am and 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. In the photo is the intersection of the approach road to Vinh Tuy bridge with Co Linh street.
To solve the above problem, the Hanoi People's Committee has just assigned relevant units to develop a plan to build an underpass at the Co Linh intersection (in Long Bien district) and the road leading to Vinh Tuy bridge. The total investment is expected to be about 500 - 700 billion VND, implemented in the period of 2023 - 2024.
The intersection of Vinh Tuy bridge with Minh Khai street and Nguyen Khoi embankment is more open than Co Linh intersection.
The Vinh Tuy Bridge construction project phase 2 has been completed and is included in the list of key projects of Hanoi city, completing the entire Ring Road 2, enhancing traffic capacity between the two banks of the Red River, meeting the increasing transportation demand between the center of the capital and the northern and northeastern areas of the city.
