Today, June 3, in Vinh Thai commune (Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and the People's Committee of Quang Tri province to organize a rally to respond to World Environment Day June 5, World Ocean Day June 8, Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2024 and launch the construction of a model of farmers' association participating in environmental protection and climate change response for the period 2024 - 2030. World Environment Day 2024 was launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with the theme "Restoring land, combating drought and desertification" to call on countries to join hands towards the goals of land restoration, combating desertification and drought resistance, slowing down climate change; protecting nature, enhancing livelihoods and food security for billions of people around the world.
World Oceans Day 2024 with the theme "Understanding the Ocean Better" calls on countries and organizations to explore and awaken understanding of the ocean; make efforts to change to protect the ocean, for a blue and sustainable ocean.

Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2024 with the main theme of "Management and sustainable use of marine space" held from June 1 to 8 every year is an opportunity for Vietnam to affirm its potential and determination to sustainably develop marine economic sectors, while protecting environmental resources and national sovereignty at sea.

In recent years, Quang Tri province has developed and issued many policies on management and protection of natural resources and the environment, aiming to enhance responsibility and efficiency in management, exploitation and use of natural resources, environmental protection and proactively respond to climate change for sustainable development. Quang Tri province has also had orientations to transform the growth model towards greening economic sectors, gradually limiting economic sectors that generate large amounts of waste, causing pollution and environmental degradation; issuing policies as well as encouraging and building models for organizations, individuals and businesses to combat plastic waste...
Up to now, the rate of collected and treated domestic solid waste has reached over 94%; there are more than 120 models of waste collection, classification, and collection; many self-management groups on marine environment have been deployed in the province. Speaking at the rally, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong requested provincial departments, branches, People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to continue implementing the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and documents guiding the implementation of the law on strengthening activities of managing soil quality. Develop mechanisms, policies and enhance training of human resources, technical facilities, research facilities for desertification prevention; investigate and assess the current state of desertification; build a database on desertification, drought maps for areas directly affected.
Strengthen the implementation and replication of effective models in land restoration, drought and desertification prevention, especially in areas directly affected by drought and desertification. Call for the participation of all levels, sectors and the entire people to join hands in protecting natural resources; join hands in land restoration, drought and desertification prevention, and sustainable management and use of marine space through specific actions.

At the rally, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Provincial Farmers' Association, the Farmers' Associations of Vinh Thai and Kim Thach communes and Cua Tung town (Vinh Linh district) signed a commitment to build a "Model of fishermen bringing garbage ashore".

On this occasion, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment presented the Model of Plastic Waste Reduction for New Rural Development to Vinh Linh and Gio Linh districts. The Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union supported the model of bright - green - clean - beautiful - safe - exemplary villages and hamlets to the Farmers' Union of Vinh Linh district; supported 10 garbage collection vehicles to the Farmers' Union of Vinh Thai commune. The Provincial People's Committee presented Vinh Hoa commune (Vinh Linh district) with a model of waste classification and recycling. The Organizing Committee presented 45 gifts to 45 farmers in difficult circumstances in Vinh Linh district.
After the rally, delegates and a large number of people set out to clean the beach.
