Windows 11 handheld game console, priced from just $299

According to Neowin , earlier this month, Ayaneo made a notable announcement regarding the Next Lite handheld console, where the company opted for an unofficial third-party SteamOS fork called HoloISO instead of Valve's SteamOS as it was first introduced.

Ayaneo Next Lite is available from $299.

Now, the company has decided to use Windows 11 Home as the platform for Next Lite. To explain this, Ayaneo said that they have gathered feedback from customers and the result is that Windows is the platform that customers prefer in Next Lite. However, Ayaneo also added that buyers can still download and install the HoloISO system image from Ayaneo if they want.

Speaking about choosing HoloISO, Ayaneo shared: “The streamlined and efficient HoloISO system aims to provide players with more convenient game management, smooth and stable gaming performance, lower overall power consumption, and native compatibility with both controllers and touch screen operations. This approach fits the gaming habits of handheld device users, providing players with more operating system choices.”

Despite the OS changes, the Ayaneo Next Lite handheld gaming console retains the same hardware specifications as previously announced, including the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U or Ryzen 7 4800U chip. It also has a 7-inch 800p IPS display and a 47Wh battery. It supports M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 SSDs with up to 8TB of storage, along with Wi-Fi 6 or Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity.
