According to Rosaviatsia, the accident occurred on the morning of January 21st when a Russian Falcon 10 aircraft was flying over the Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan. It was a medical evacuation flight with a crew of four and two Indian passengers en route from Gaya (India) to Moscow (Russia).
Abdul Wahid Rayan, a spokesman for the Taliban in Afghanistan, said the plane crashed due to engine trouble. However, he added that there were seven Russians on board and the plane belonged to a Moroccan company.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, but it was a remote mountainous area, and it took them 12 hours to reach it.
On the Indian side, the country's civil aviation authority confirmed that the crashed aircraft was not a regular commercial flight and said it would release more information when available.
The Falcon 10 is an aircraft manufactured by the French company Dassault. Produced between 1971 and 1989, it remains quite popular on the secondary market.
