From June 12, E Hospital in collaboration with Operation Smile will organize a program of examination, surgery and humanitarian treatment for patients with cleft lip, palate and many other deformities at E Hospital in response to the month of action for children.
At the screening session, Dr. Phan Thao Nguyen, Deputy Director of E Hospital, said: "This is the fourth time the Hospital has organized a humanitarian surgical examination and treatment program for patients with cleft lip, palate and many other deformities at E Hospital to bring "miracles" to unfortunate children with congenital deformities such as cleft palate, syndactyly, extra toes, earlobes, etc. Children are exempted from all surgery costs, post-operative care and supported with a portion of their accommodation costs during treatment at E Hospital."

This is a humane program and is highly appreciated by society. Doctor Phan Thao Nguyen hopes that charitable organizations and benefactors will join the hospital so that it can perform more surgeries on cases of physical deformities.
Ms. Ho Thi Ha (mother of Nguyen Ngoc Nhi, 10 months old, in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province) confided: "My child has a severe cleft lip and palate defect because during the second month of pregnancy, I was sick and used antibiotics that affected the fetus. I learned about the humanitarian surgical treatment for patients with cleft lip and palate defects and many other defects at E Hospital through the district health department, I registered for surgery for my child. Collecting all the family's savings of 3 million VND, on the evening of June 11, mother and child took a bus from Ha Tinh to Hanoi. Arriving at E Hospital, mother and child received the attention of the doctors, the Social Work Department took care of each meal, free sleep and free surgery, I was motivated to work with my child to gradually overcome the defects".
PKP (7 years old, in Xuan Tien village, Ky Lac commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province) also has a severe cleft lip and palate defect, which affects his eating and drinking, causing him to be malnourished and stunted like a 3-year-old child. He has had surgery twice at a hospital in Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang, but his defect has not been completely treated, causing him to have difficulty eating and drinking due to food going up his nose, choking, and easily regurgitating... After a screening examination, doctors from the Department of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery (Hospital E) decided to treat him, perform surgery to close the cleft lip and palate for him, and the bone graft technique to cover the defect will be left for 2 years after his health is more stable.
At the screening session, Dr. Nguyen Tan Van, Faculty of Dentistry (Hospital E), and Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology - University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) said: Children coming for screening and consultation this time have many types of congenital cleft lip and cleft palate that have not been operated on and have been operated on (lip scars, palatal holes, nasal deformities). In particular, there are many children with syndactyly, extra fingers and toes. Patients are consulted, screened, operated on, re-examined after surgery and are instructed on speech therapy as well as care services before, during and after surgery. Successful surgery will help children overcome difficulties in eating and daily activities, bring confidence, and heal physical and mental injuries for children.
