Madam Pang received 68 votes out of 73 voters, officially becoming the new President of FAT. Madam Pang is also the 18th President in the history of FAT and the first woman to hold the position of head of Thai football.
Madam Pang becomes new President of FAT
Previously, Madam Pang was the President of Port Club, which plays in Thai League 1, and the head of the Thai national team for many years. After the 2023 Asian Cup, this billionaire woman resigned as head of the Thai national team. She also transferred all management rights of Port Club to her family members.
In December 2023, Madam Pang was supported by two powerful Presidents of Buriram United Clubs, Mr. Newin Chidchob and Khun Pavin Bhirombkhadi (BG Pathum United Club), so she decided to run for the position of FAT President. This decision was also paved by Mr. Somyot Poompanmoung - the current President of FAT - after 2 terms, announced that he would not run for re-election.
In the race for the position of FAT President, Madam Pang faces formidable opponents such as Ms. Pauline Ngarmpring, a very famous politician in Thailand, who ran for the position of Prime Minister of Thailand in the election in July 2023. Or Mr. Worawong Vitthawan (former spokesman of the Thai League) and Mr. Thanasak Surprarasert (a politician).
Madam Pang's victory was somewhat predicted, according to Thai press.
However, thanks to his influence in the football world in Thailand, as well as through the 2023 Asian Cup with the Thai team playing successfully under new coach Masatada Ishii (reaching the round of 16, only to lose to Uzbekistan with a narrow score of 1-2), Madam Pang won a resounding victory when receiving more than half of the total votes in just 7 minutes to become the new President of FAT.
