According to Neowin, MacBook launched its highest-end product line with a price reduction from $1,999 last year to $1,499 in the US market. The reason is that for the first time the company added the M3 chip option while previous generations only used Pro and Max chips for the 14-inch version. Meanwhile, the 16-inch MacBook Pro still only has two options, M3 Pro and M3 Max, with a starting price of $2,499. The change to the 14-inch Pro line also caused the company to stop upgrading and kill the 13-inch MacBook Pro line with Touch Bar.
With the M3, Apple says the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro is 60% faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 chip while still providing 22 hours of battery life. If you use the M3 Pro model, performance will be 40% faster than the corresponding M1 Pro version. The M3 Max chip options will support up to 128 GB of memory to improve workflow in applications like MATLAB, DaVinci Resolve. Apple also says the M3 Max version is up to 11 times faster than the 2021 Intel-based MacBook Pro computers.
The top-of-the-line M3 Max delivers up to 11 times the performance of an Intel Mac and is twice as powerful as the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip. MATLAB simulations are up to 5.5 times faster and Redshift rendering is up to 5.3 times faster, according to Apple benchmarks. Users can configure the M3 Max system with up to 128GB of onboard memory.
Another important upgrade on the M3 chip is hardware acceleration for both ray tracing (creating more realistic lighting effects in graphics) and mesh shading (creating mesh shadows, better handling of geometry). This change is especially important for gamers or professional content creators like animators and 3D modelers.
Apple is taking orders for the new MacBook Pro duo from today and will start shipping on November 7. The company has not announced delivery times in Vietnam, but on the Apple Store Online, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 chip starts at VND40 million, the M3 Pro starts at VND50 million. The 16-inch version starts at VND65 million.
