According to Neowin , the first generation 12-inch MacBook was announced in March 2015 with a starting price of $1,299. It was a MacBook equipped with an Intel Core M dual-core CPU combined with 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The product was discontinued in April 2016 after Apple released the next generation version.
It's been 7 years since the 12-inch MacBook was discontinued in May 2016.
The 12-inch MacBook only has two ports on the entire machine, including a 3.5mm audio jack and a multi-function USB-C that supports USB 3.1 Gen 1, HDMI, VGA, and DisplayPort 1.2. This also means that users will have to buy a separate USB-C adapter for additional connectivity options. It is also the first Apple laptop to feature a USB-C port and the first MacBook to ship without MagSafe charging at the time. In late 2021, Apple brought the MagSafe 3 charging connector to the MacBook Pro using Apple M-series chips.
The 2015 12-inch MacBook is also one of the lightest laptops on the market, weighing just 920 grams. With a 39.7 Wh battery, the device offers up to 30 days of standby time and about 9 hours of web browsing.
Apple marks a product as obsolete after it has been seven years since it was discontinued. Service providers can no longer order repair parts for the device, and it is no longer eligible for hardware repairs at Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Centers. Last month, Apple also added the first-generation iPad Air to its list of obsolete products.
Since its launch, the 12-inch MacBook has been refreshed twice, first in April 2016 and again in June 2017 before being discontinued in 2019.
