USA Despite losing 1-6 and 6-7(9), Ly Hoang Nam made Arthur Cazaux, currently ranked 142nd in the world , go through a match that lasted more than two hours in the first round of the Grandby Challenger 100.
With a higher level, Cazaux easily defeated Hoang Nam in the past. But this reunion in Quebec City, Canada is somewhat different.
The match took place at noon on July 18, Hanoi time, and saw Cazaux take an early advantage when he won the first serve game in set one. Hoang Nam had a chance to reclaim the lead in game five but failed after four times bringing the score to 40-40. Cazaux won the serve game right after that, ending the set with a 6-1 victory.

In the second set, while playing evenly, Hoang Nam lost his serve game. However, he still played with determination, taking advantage of two consecutive double faults from Cazaux to win the receiving game and equalize the score at 5-5. After that, the player born in 1997 took a 6-5 lead and had a great chance to end the set when leading 40-0 in game 12 before losing the match.
In the tie-break, the Vietnamese player led 5-1 but once again let Cazaux fight back to win 9-7 and then lost the second set 6-7. Despite the defeat, Ly Hoang Nam still made the French player spend a lot of energy after 2 hours and 12 minutes of play.
Hoang Nam's performance showed his progress during his training and competition trip in North America. Before that, he participated in the Chicago Challenger 75 tournament in the US, but was eliminated early in the first qualifying round by Mexican player Ernesto Escobedo with a score of 1-6 and 0-6.
Since the beginning of 2023, Hoang Nam has participated in six tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour system, with his best achievement being reaching the second round of the Nonthaburi III Challenger 50 in Thailand in January. After that, he went through a series of five consecutive tournaments where he was eliminated in the first match.
In between Challenger tournaments, Hoang Nam twice reached the M25 semi-finals in India and Indonesia. He also reached the final of the 32nd SEA Games, but missed out on the gold medal due to health problems.
