The reason why Binh Duong central park is abandoned

VnExpressVnExpress30/05/2023

After receiving the handover, the cultural and sports center only had about 10 staff, unable to clean and sanitize the large park, causing the place to quickly deteriorate.

Thu Dau Mot Park is located in Hiep Thanh Ward, formerly Thu Dau Mot Town Park (before becoming a city), built in 2000 with a scale of 26 hectares managed by the local government. In addition to the entertainment space for the people, this place is also considered the "golden land" of the city because it is located along Binh Duong Avenue - the route to Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2007, with the policy of socialization, Binh Duong approved the investment and exploitation plan of Thu Dau Mot Town Park project as proposed by Thanh Le Import-Export Trading Company (100% state capital). At this time, the scale of the project was adjusted to 8.8 hectares, renamed Thanh Le Cultural Park.

After receiving the land, Thanh Le Company built this place into a public resting and walking space with many wedding services, cafes, restaurants, swimming pools... The park also planted thousands of trees, installed street lights, and facilities to serve the needs of the people, especially workers.

In 2018, Thanh Le Company was equitized and no longer had 100% state capital. Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee decided to hand over 8.8 hectares of the park area to Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee to manage and develop into an open cultural project because this is public land.

After completing the procedures for receiving and handing over the project, including the land boundary, in April 2022, the park was renamed Thu Dau Mot Park. During this time, the green garden area for people to walk was almost not cleaned, and fallen leaves covered the path.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc, Chairwoman of Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee, said that by the time of handover in 2022, many areas of the park had seriously degraded after several years of inactivity. The city initially spent nearly 500 million VND on repairs and restoration to bring the project back into operation.

Currently, the park is managed and operated by the City Center for Culture, Information and Sports. However, due to the small staff of the unit (about 10 people), the cleaning work is still limited and not comprehensive.

In addition, the green area in the park is very large, the cleaning staff cannot clean it all up, sweeping all the leaves in one place, the leaves in another place fall, many areas are less frequented, becoming deserted. "Some infrastructure projects are only initially accepted, we have to assess the current situation before putting them into operation," said Ms. Cuc.

According to the city leaders, the repair is only temporary, the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot City has planned to implement a complete project to repair the park with a capital of nearly 50 billion VND. The project will turn the park into an airy, modern "open space", a true entertainment spot for the city's residents.

"All technical investment procedures are being completed so that the project can start soon," said Ms. Cuc, adding that she will direct the Center for Culture, Information and Sports to increase cleaning.
