Free 5 star cruise tour scam

VnExpressVnExpress27/07/2023

A group of scammers impersonated a reputable travel company, promising customers to appear on TV and experience a free 5-star cruise.

Since July 25, the fanpage "STAR Travel Blue Sea Tour" has started posting articles about the "real-life experience" program for families with young children during the summer. Participants are parents with children aged 3-17 who love to travel, are not afraid of the sea and like to explore. Selected families will travel for free on a cruise ship, appear on TV in the program "Dad, where are we going?", and interact with foreign guests to improve their children's English skills.

The representative of this fanpage added that this is a program in collaboration with the travel company Best Price, with the participation of many media agencies. After submitting information, participants will be added to a closed group. At this time, they are asked to click on the link to the tour product worth 680,000 VND per customer on the Best Price website. According to the explanation, this is an activity to "evaluate the quality of the tour" and when completed, customers will be rewarded.

Participants need to complete all requirements to be considered for the main program. Next, the scammer asks participants to transfer money to an account named "NGUYEN MANH CUONG" at SHB bank, account number 0336542792. Participants are promised to receive the full principal plus 10% commission within 5-10 minutes after completing the survey. Those who are gullible are likely to lose money and have their accounts blocked immediately after the transfer.

Responding to VnExpress , Mr. Bui Thanh Tu, Marketing Director of Best Price, confirmed that the company does not cooperate with the unit "STAR Travel Blue Sea Tours".

"This is a scam, impersonating our company and the show 'Dad, where are we going?'", Mr. Tu said.

Advice for tourists is to be cautious with requests to transfer money to personal accounts. On the other hand, customers should also cross-check by contacting the support phone number of the relevant units to check, in this case Best Price. Currently, it is the peak of summer tourism, so scam groups are "very active" and tourists need to be more vigilant.

According to Mr. Tu, the tricks of these people are relatively similar, often preying on the psychology of wanting cheap and free things. In addition, fanpages posting fraudulent content are often newly created, without many posts or interactions. For example, the fanpage of "STAR Travel Blue Sea Tour" was created on July 25 and has 18 followers.
