Long An receives Ho Chi Minh Medal and celebrates 60th anniversary of Hiep Hoa victory

In his speech at the ceremony, Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, reviewed the victory of Hiep Hoa battle and the process of building and developing Long An province. Right from the beginning of the resistance war against French colonialism, Long An people bravely stood up and raised the flag of righteousness with the typical image of a peasant patriot holding only "a bamboo pole" in his hand but still "jumped over the fence and rushed forward, ignoring the enemy".

In September 1963, Long An Provincial Party Committee advocated to accelerate the destruction of “strategic hamlets” on a larger scale and Hiep Hoa - a center and commando base, one of the largest in the South at that time, was chosen as the target of attack to destroy, create a buzz, destroy the base and collect additional weapons for our forces. The victory of Hiep Hoa battle in 1963 was the result of the consistent solidarity and high fighting spirit between the army and people of Long An; opening a glorious chapter in the history of the resistance war against the US to save the country of the army, people and Party Committee of Long An.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, inheriting and promoting the spirit of victory in the Hiep Hoa battle, the Party Committee, army and people of Long An continued to gain important victories in the resistance war against American imperialism to save the country, and were awarded the title of "Loyal and resilient, the whole people fight the enemy" by the Central Committee of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam at the 2nd Congress of Heroes and Emulation Fighters of the whole South on September 17, 1967, contributing with the whole country to successfully complete the national liberation revolution, gaining independence and freedom for the Fatherland.

“Since the reunification of the country, under the dynamic, innovative and creative leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, Long An has continuously strived to rise up and continue to achieve many important achievements in many fields. With proud achievements in the past 10 years, Long An province has been awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This is a great honor and pride for the Party Committee, government and people of Long An province,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Ut.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that the victory of the Hiep Hoa battle had great significance, had a great impact, shook the spirit of enemy soldiers in the outposts and strategic hamlets in a large area, and was the beginning of the climax of destroying strategic hamlets by the army and people of Long An. The significance of the victory also marked a remarkable step forward in the maturity of the Long An Party Committee in leading the struggle and building the movement of the entire people fighting the enemy, especially of the Long An armed forces.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia congratulated and commended the outstanding results and achievements that the Party Committee and People of Long An have continuously strived to achieve over the past century; at the same time, warmly congratulated the Party Committee and People of Long An on being honored to receive the Ho Chi Minh Medal, a noble award of the Party and State.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Long An in the renovation period has a very important strategic position in the Southern Key Economic Zone, the gateway on the urban-industrial economic corridor of the Mekong Delta, closely connected with Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast Region, an important hub for cooperation and exchange with Cambodia. These are the most dynamic, dynamic, and developed economic regions and are important locomotives of all countries.

Therefore, to achieve the goal of striving to maintain the leading position of the Mekong Delta by 2025, and to become a fairly developed province in the Southern Key Economic Zone by 2030, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that the Party Committee, Government and People of Long An need to continue to promote the tradition of bravery, resilience, solidarity, arouse patriotism, will, cultural strength, and Long An people; exploit the maximum potential and advantages of the province; resolutely, synchronously and effectively implement the planning of Long An province in accordance with the national master plan, national sectoral planning and the planning of the Mekong Delta.

In addition, Long An province also needs to focus on implementing more effectively key programs and tasks, especially the province's three breakthrough programs, which are: "Program to mobilize all resources to build road traffic infrastructure to serve industrial and urban development in the province's key economic zones; Program to develop high-tech agriculture associated with restructuring the agricultural sector; Program to train human resources to meet the needs of industrial and agricultural development of the province" to build Long An to develop quickly and sustainably.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Long An province, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc acknowledged the direction of the Central leaders. This is a great source of encouragement and important orientation in the work of building and developing Long An province; this is also a great motivation for the Party Committee, Government, army and people of Long An to constantly strive to successfully carry out the political, economic, cultural and social tasks of the province. Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc promised to receive, thoroughly grasp and fully implement the direction of the Central leaders with practical and specific actions, meeting the needs of international integration, building and developing the country as well as protecting the Fatherland as set forth by the Party and State.

On this occasion, Long An Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Van Duoc also requested all cadres, party members, and soldiers of the people's armed forces in the province to continue to uphold and promote the glorious revolutionary spirit of "loyalty and steadfastness" of the homeland; inherit and promote the glorious revolutionary cause of previous generations in the work of building and developing the homeland, unite together, strive to overcome all difficulties and challenges, continue to comprehensively and extensively promote the renovation process, determined to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, contributing to the common goal of building a prosperous and happy Vietnam.
