In the description, Taste Atlas writes: "Three-color sweet soup can include sticky rice, tapioca pearls, lotus seeds, beans, chestnuts, and agar jelly." Regardless of how many ingredients are included in this sweet soup, it is almost always served with coconut milk, garnished with bananas and crushed peanuts or some other toppings. Three-color sweet soup can be eaten hot or cold, however it is often considered a cool, refreshing dish on hot summer days. Besides the name three-color sweet soup, this dessert is also known as "rainbow sweet soup".

In the list of 100 best desserts in Southeast Asia, dozens of other sweet desserts and cakes are also present.

Ranked 24th with a rating of 4.0 is the Vietnamese version of flan with caramel cream. This dish originated from France, and was introduced to Vietnam during the colonial period and became a signature version with a soft cake covered with a layer of sweet, slightly bitter caramel. When cooked, the flan is flipped over, causing the amber caramel sauce on top to cover the cake, making it look very attractive.

Che troi nuoc is ranked 30th with a rating of 4.0. This dessert is a combination of palm sugar water cooked with ginger and sometimes pandan leaves, served with banh troi nuoc with mung bean filling. This dessert is best served hot, and is often eaten in winter.

Coming in at number 32 is fried banana cake - a popular street snack in Vietnam. Ripe bananas are rolled out lengthwise and then coated with a layer of dough, usually a mixture of rice flour and wheat flour, coconut milk, sugar, sesame, etc.

Steamed pork skin cake is ranked 34th with a 3.9 rating. The cake has many layers, made from pureed mung beans, tapioca flour, rice flour, coconut milk,... The cake filling can be added with durian or taro depending on taste.

In addition, desserts such as popped green rice - a specialty of the Mekong Delta, agar jelly, green bean cake, Vietnamese fruit cocktail (Thai sweet soup), sponge cake, grilled banana cake, pomelo sweet soup, sweet soup, orange cake, floating cake, banana sweet soup, lotus seed sweet soup, green bean sweet soup,... are also on this list.
