On the afternoon of February 1, speaking with Dan Tri reporter, a leader of the Construction Investment Project Management Board (PMU) of Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak) confirmed that after receiving many opinions, the city leaders decided to turn the dragon mascot's head towards the 6-way intersection, the center of the city.
According to the leader of the Project Management Board, the dragon mascot, although still in the process of being assembled and completed for use during Tet, has received special attention from the community and the press. Workers are rushing to complete the dragon mascot and the flower street in the city's flower garden.
The representative of the dragon mascot design and assembly unit in Dak Lak said that they had received notice that the dragon's head would be turned in the opposite direction, a change from the original design.
"The dragon is a flexible and agile mascot. No matter which direction the dragon faces, it has many positive meanings. The dragon mascot is to serve the people during the Lunar New Year, so no matter which direction it faces, it is beautiful and most importantly, pleasing to the beholder," said the representative of the design unit.
After designing and constructing the dragon mascot, the unit transported it from Ho Chi Minh City to Dak Lak for assembly. The team has now returned to Ho Chi Minh City and can only provide remote technical support to the Dak Lak workers.
"If the dragon was originally designed with its head facing forward, the design would certainly be very lively and beautiful. The dragon mascot with its head facing the opposite direction will have additional accessories added to harmonize the design," the representative of the design unit shared.
It is known that the dragon mascot and flower street were ordered by the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City and assigned to the City Project Management Board as the investor, Dak Lak Urban and Environment Company as the implementing unit with a cost of nearly 1 billion VND.
The dragon mascot is made of metallic gold foam, 16m long, 6m high, with a steel structure inside and LED lights around it.
In the original design, the Dak Lak dragon mascot hid itself "embracing the sky and earth", its head facing east. However, while the mascot was being completed, on social networking forums, the image of the Dak Lak dragon mascot was shared, with conflicting arguments about the dragon "turning its head" instead of facing forward.
Faced with controversy over the direction of the dragon mascot's head, Buon Ma Thuot City has decided to change the direction of the dragon's head.
