The 2024 National Journalism Awards on Gender Equality honored the 24 best works

(CLO) At the Award Ceremony, 24 best press works by authors/author groups in 04 categories: print, electronic, radio, and television were honored and 03 press and media agencies with the most entries won collective awards.


On the morning of December 18, at the Vietnam Women's Museum, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in collaboration with the Vietnam Journalists Association organized the 2024 National Press Awards on Gender Equality.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong - Vice President of Vietnam Women's Union spoke at the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong - Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union said that the 2024 National Press Awards on Gender Equality is a highlight in a series of very meaningful activities responding to the "Month of action for gender equality and prevention and response to gender-based violence" in 2024, towards the 30th anniversary of implementing the Beijing Platform for Action and 10 years of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong shared that this is the first time a national journalism award on gender equality has been held in Vietnam, marking an important step forward in communication activities to promote gender equality, enhance women's empowerment and eliminate violence against women and girls in Vietnam.

The authors won the C Prize at the Award Ceremony.

"After one month of launching, the Organizing Committee received 367 works from authors and groups of authors from 88 news agencies and newspapers nationwide, exceeding the target by more than 20% compared to the plan. This number shows that the National Press Award on Gender Equality has received the attention and participation of the press and the field of communication on gender equality has entered life, creating a positive response from the people and the whole society," said Ms. Huong.

The Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union assessed that with 4 genres: print, electronic, radio and television, the works have been invested seriously and elaborately, with many creative, vivid and attractive ways of expression for the public; clearly demonstrating the capacity for digital transformation and journalistic innovation when exploiting issues of gender equality.

Many works have focused on addressing shortcomings such as gender bias, gender-based violence, barriers to women's access to equal opportunities and proposed practical, sustainable solutions; models and initiatives to promote gender equality, thereby contributing to changing perceptions, arousing empathy and promoting positive actions from the community.

At the Award Ceremony, the Organizing Committee honored outstanding works in 04 categories (print, electronic, radio, television) with the award structure for each category including: 01 A prize, 01 B prize, 02 C prizes and 02 Encouragement prizes. In addition, the Organizing Committee awarded 03 collective prizes to agencies and units with many quality entries, namely Vietnam Women's Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper and Nghe An Newspaper, the prizes include Certificates and cash.
