Having easily defeated German tennis player Fabian Roth (ranked 82nd in the world), Le Duc Phat (ranked 70th in the world) entered the decisive match to win a ticket to the round of 16 of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Duc Phat's opponent, tennis player Prannoy (India), is rated much higher, ranked 13th in the world.
However, Duc Phat did not waver when playing evenly with Prannoy. In game 1, Duc Phat created a score race and then surprised everyone by continuously taking the lead after the consultation.
Facing the excitement in Duc Phat's playing style, Prannoy showed signs of mental fatigue with poor handling. Thereby, Duc Phat surprisingly won the first game with a score of 21-16.
In the second set, Duc Phat maintained his good form but Prannoy showed his experience as he gradually regained his rhythm. The Indian player continuously took the lead to end the second set with a score of 21-11.
In the decisive third game, Duc Phat continuously had strong smashes while Prannoy played solidly. After the first 8 points of close chase, Prannoy gradually gained the upper hand and won with a score of 21-12.
With a 2-1 victory, Prannoy won a ticket to the round of 16 to meet compatriot Lakshya Sen (world No. 22).
Although Le Duc Phat stopped at the group stage, in his first time attending the Olympics, he left a good impression with a victory, as well as playing fairly with a higher rated opponent.
