On the morning of August 17, 2024, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lien Son commune (Gia Vien) held a ceremony to receive, pay tribute, and bury the remains of martyr Luong Xuan Truong from Tan Bien Martyrs' Cemetery, Tay Ninh province to Lien Son Commune Martyrs' Cemetery.
Attending the event were representatives of the Ninh Binh Province Martyrs' Families Support Association, the District Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the Gia Vien District Military Command and people of Lien Son commune.
Martyr Luong Xuan Truong was born in 1955 in a poor peasant family with a rich revolutionary tradition in Binh Khang village, Lien Son commune, Gia Vien district (formerly Tam Son village). In April 1974, following the sacred call of the Fatherland, he volunteered to join the army. After a period of training, he was assigned to Company 4, Regiment 117 (Special Forces Regiment of Military Region 7) to participate in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign in the formation of Group 232, the western wing of Saigon.
With many outstanding achievements, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal, held the position of Deputy Platoon Leader and was awarded many certificates of merit and commendation from the Army. During the Southwestern border war, he continued to work with his unit to resolutely protect every inch of the Fatherland and help Cambodia escape genocide. On July 5, 1979, in a battle to sweep away the remnants of the Pol Pot army, he fought steadfastly and heroically sacrificed. His grave was buried and cared for by the Party Committee, government and people of Tay Ninh province at Tan Bien Martyrs Cemetery.
Recently, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ninh Binh province, Tay Ninh province, Gia Vien district and the Association for Supporting Martyrs' Families of Ninh Binh province have joined together to correct incorrect information on the tombstone, completing the procedures to bring the remains of Martyr Luong Xuan Truong back to the Lien Son Commune Martyrs' Cemetery for burial after 45 years of his death. This is a meaningful and humane act, responding to the wishes of the people and the family of Martyr Luong Xuan Truong.
