On May 24, Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital announced that it had just performed surgery to remove two stones the size of chicken eggs from the bladder of an elderly man with many underlying medical conditions.

Previously, Mr. NTT (83 years old, living in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) came to Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital for examination with prolonged difficulty urinating, intermittent urination and severe pain in the lower abdomen. Surgeons removed two stones the size of chicken eggs from the bladder of an elderly man.

Through examination and paraclinical tests, the results of abdominal MSCT (computerized tomography) showed that there were 2 large stones in the bladder. After consultation, the team ordered surgery to remove the stones.

The surgery lasted for 1 hour, the doctor removed 2 stones the size of chicken eggs. After 3 days of treatment, the old man recovered his health.

Dr. Pham Thanh Khoi (Department of Nephrology - Urology, Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital) said that the hospital often receives cases of elderly patients with urinary tract stones, but this is the first time it has encountered a case of 2 stones that large. For elderly patients with many internal medical conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.), it causes many difficulties in diagnosing the disease, anesthesia and surgery, because if the surgery is prolonged, the patient will face many risks during surgery and difficulty in post-operative recovery.
