From March 1, 2G "brick" phones that have not been certified to be compliant will not be allowed to connect to new networks.
According to the plan, by September 2024, the Ministry of Information and Communications aims to have no more 2G Only subscribers on the mobile network. However, there are currently some early 3G and 4G smartphone subscribers on the market that have not yet integrated the VoLTE feature. These phone models are forced to make voice calls via 2G and 3G platforms and can still continue to be used until September 2026. Therefore, from September 2024 to September 2026, the existing 2G system will be used for voice and text messaging services for subscribers using 3G and 4G phones that do not support VoLTE technology. By 2026, there will be no more 2G systems on the network, only 3G and 4G. To know whether the 2G "brick" phone you are using has been certified or not, users can go to the website of the Center for Telecommunications Quality Measurement (Department of Telecommunications - Ministry of Information and Communications) to check. Accordingly, at the address https://tqc.gov.vn/2g-only will provide a list of 2G terminals that have been granted a certificate of conformity. To check whether the phone you are using is on this list or not, users just need to type the name in the search box in the right corner of the screen, if the results show the name of the product you are using, it means that the product has been certified, otherwise if not, this is an uncertified phone or a phone that has been illegally imported into Vietnam and will not be able to connect to the network. Currently, the list of 2G mobile terminals that have been granted a certificate of conformity is updated by this website until August 21, 2023.
