More than 700 delegates attended the Launching Ceremony of the Campaign to Make the World Cleaner 2023

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Dinh Khac Dinh - Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union shared: The campaign to make the world cleaner is an opportunity for the entire social community to join hands to act for the environment, to fulfill environmental responsibilities from small but meaningful actions. In recent years, in Vietnam, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has been the leading unit in launching the response, coordinating with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union to organize many practical activities. The movements have a high impact such as: Launching a campaign to clean up the environment, collecting waste, planting trees, cleaning the sea, replicating models of collecting, classifying, and treating household waste, plastic waste at the source, implementing propaganda to bring legal regulations on environmental protection into people's lives...

These activities and movements have contributed to raising awareness among cadres, members, farmers and people nationwide about the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on environmental protection, climate change response, natural disaster prevention and mitigation; forming a sense of responsibility and environmentally friendly living behaviors, actively contributing to the construction of new rural areas and sustainable development of the country.

Mr. Dinh Khac Dinh - Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of Vietnam Farmers' Union spoke at the launching ceremony.

On behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Central Vietnam Farmers' Union, Vice President Dinh Khac Dinh called on ministries, departments, branches, central organizations, People's Committees of provinces/cities, agencies, organizations, units as well as each citizen to continue to launch and participate in environmental protection movements in the community. In particular, coastal provinces and cities and agencies and units in coastal localities should increase the activities of cleaning up each school at beaches and coastal areas, focusing on collecting and recovering products made from plastic, packaging, and nylon bags that are difficult to decompose and transporting them to recycling and treatment sites according to regulations.

The campaign also focuses on propaganda, dissemination and education to help people raise awareness and responsibility in protecting, preserving and ensuring environmental sanitation, classifying waste at source, minimizing waste generation, increasing reuse and recycling of waste. A simple action that everyone can take is to refuse to use single-use plastic products and hard-to-decompose nylon bags.

Promoting the integration of environmental protection education into training programs is essential. “It is necessary to build environmental ethics, culture, and ecological civilization in dealing with nature; overcome and eliminate the mindset of pursuing immediate economic benefits while ignoring the responsibility of protecting the environment,” Mr. Dinh emphasized.

The Farmers' Association of Nhan Thang Commune, Gia Binh District, Bac Ninh Province will build a pilot model for collecting used pesticide packaging, building a community without plastic waste.

On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union presented support for building a pilot model of "Collecting pesticide packaging and strengthening plastic waste management" to the Farmers' Union of Nhan Thang Commune, Gia Binh District, Bac Ninh Province. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, Chairman of the Farmers' Union of Nhan Thang Commune, the union has implemented activities to collect and treat pesticide packaging in the fields and clean the fields since 2018 and mobilized people to follow. After initial difficulties, up to now, people have formed the habit of bringing used pesticide packaging to trash bins placed in the fields, reducing the situation of littering.

The Association welcomes the support of the Central Association to build this activity into a model for replication. In addition, the Association also recommends that the competent authorities and the Farmers' Association at higher levels should support those who directly collect this type of hazardous waste. At the same time, the treatment should avoid mixing with normal waste, causing the emission of toxic gases - Mr. Thang said.
