The shooting occurred after a dispute broke out between two groups of people, sending hundreds fleeing Tampa's Ybor City nightclub district around 3 a.m. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said a 14-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were killed.

Officers responded to the incident within seconds. Authorities said they were aware of “an altercation between two groups” and that an unidentified man they believe was involved in the incident “turned himself in and detectives are currently interviewing him.” They are also asking the public to help by providing relevant information and video.
“This is a very complex scene but what we know, at this point, is that it was a scuffle or a fight between two groups,” Mr Bercaw said.
Police also said two handguns were recovered at the scene, one of which was stolen, and are looking into whether other shooters were involved. Police also arrested suspect Tyrell Stephen Phillips, who is facing a charge of second-degree murder with a firearm, Tampa police said.
Of the 16 injured, one was seriously injured. “Many of the victims, aged between 18 and 27, have been treated and released from hospital. Five remain in hospital recovering from their injuries,” the police statement said.
