On July 7, Mbappe received the award for the best French player of the 2022-2023 season from L'Equipe and France Football. After the ceremony, the French striker received many questions related to his future at PSG.
In response, the 1998-born star expressed a tough stance: "The reason to believe that I will enter my final season at PSG? Very simple. I have always been a highly competitive player. When I play, my only desire is to win.
No matter what club I played for, no matter when, I had the same hunger. I went on vacation to recharge my batteries and find the hunger to conquer everything again. I always felt unsatisfied and unimpressed with anything I did.
I told myself I really wanted to do it again and better. I am someone who always has a strong desire to win. I don't want to play for a team that is just playing for fun. That's why sometimes people think I'm arrogant.
I'm not afraid of failure. It's part of who I am. But I have a deep belief that I was born to win. I want to show that desire to everyone."
Next, Mbappe shocked everyone when he clearly stated his determination to leave PSG: "I think playing for PSG won't help much. It's a club that's not united, internally divided. Of course, that attracts gossip. I don't care and I know what to do."
Speaking about PSG's frequent failures in the Champions League, Mbappe said: "I don't know what PSG needs to do to win the Champions League. That's not a question for me.
You have to talk to the leaders and build the team. I just try to do my job as well as I can. I was the best player, top scorer in Ligue 1 for five years in a row.
There are many things I am proud of. Firstly, that we continue to win trophies. Whatever the trophy, the whole team has gone through a difficult journey and everyone has fought for it. I am also very happy with my individual performance, scoring 50 goals in the season. I had a great moment, but I could have done better."
Mbappe showed his mettle when it came to the possibility of winning the Ballon d'Or. The PSG striker added: "People can underestimate my performances in a league like Ligue 1. In France, people have seen me grow up. They watch me play every weekend and with the national team.
I scored a lot of goals during the year. Therefore, in everyone's eyes, every goal of mine is normal. I don't feel bothered when my performance is trivialized. I myself trivialize what great players like Messi or C. Ronaldo have done."
