Sharing with AS newspaper, former Spanish world number 12 Feliciano Lopez assessed that Rafael Nadal could win another Roland Garros title in 2024: "I hope Nadal arrives at Roland Garros strong enough to compete with all opponents.
I still have faith in seeing him win another Roland Garros title. That's also where some of the matches at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be held, in his garden."
Nadal also confirmed his return to professional tennis and the "King of Clay" will compete from the ATP 250 Brisbane International in Australia, taking place from December 31, 2023 to January 7, 2024.
After being eliminated in the second round of the 2023 Australian Open on January 19, Nadal has not played any more tournaments. This year, in addition to Roland Garros, Nadal also hopes to achieve the best results at the 2024 Australian Open, a tournament where Djokovic is the defending champion.
Although ranked 663rd in the world, Nadal is still allowed to participate in major tournaments based on wildcards or ranking rules (players who are absent due to injury for at least 6 months are allowed to submit a request to defend their ranking to the ATP when they return).
Djokovic holds the record for Grand Slam titles with 24, while Nadal has two fewer. In addition to the challenge from Nadal, Djokovic faces young players who are improving rapidly such as Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
Young tennis player Holger Rune warned Djokovic: "Djokovic has the right point of view because no one retires when they are in peak form. Novak just won 3/4 Grand Slams last season. Therefore, not only me but other tennis players need to beat him.
Nole will not stop until he is defeated by other players, so each player needs to practice and improve their skills to soon take over the top positions in the world."
