(PLVN) - By 2024, the country will have over 14,300 effectively operating agricultural cooperatives (ACOs). Of these, 2,169 are the owners of recognized OCOP products and 600,000 rural workers will receive basic vocational training to meet the requirements of industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

OCOP products are the "measure"

In 2024, the Department of Economic Cooperation and Rural Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) directed and organized the implementation of policies on rural industry development according to Decree No. 52/ND-CP, while promoting localities to preserve and develop traditional craft villages and occupations. Currently, 36 provinces nationwide have issued the Program for preserving and developing craft villages, recognizing 216 traditional occupations, 657 traditional craft villages, and 1,382 craft villages. The Department continues to deploy and disseminate the Strategy for rural industry development to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

According to the report of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Rural Development, by the end of December 2024, the country had about 21,700 agricultural cooperatives, of which 14,300 were operating effectively (reaching 65.6%). There were 101 Agricultural Cooperative Unions and 36,000 agricultural cooperative groups (THT). Of which, nearly 2,500 agricultural cooperatives applied high technology and digital transformation; 4,339 cooperatives participated in the purchase of agricultural products for members. 2,169 agricultural cooperatives had OCOP products, accounting for 37.9% of the number of recognized OCOP product entities...

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan once stated that OCOP products are Vietnamese values and identities, and OCOP products need to compete with cultural values when approaching the market. Nowadays, consumers do not only buy products but also buy the “story that creates the product”, so the more special the story, the more different the price, the easier it is to communicate and promote the product to the market. Moreover, the “story” needs to be built with different cultural values and indigenous knowledge, and must be shown on packaging and labels; the “story” not only creates emotions for consumers, but also enhances pride in the homeland and country.

It is known that after more than 6 years of implementation, Vietnam has had more than 14,000 OCOP products from nearly 8,000 entities. OCOP products have gradually approached the market, unleashing the potential and advantages of regions to develop the rural economy. Minister Hoan said that compared to the country's rich resources, the dynamic spirit of the people, businesses, and cooperatives, what we have achieved is still modest in both quantity and quality.

Many rural workers are trained in vocational skills.

According to Mr. Le Duc Thinh - Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Rural Development, implementing Directive No. 37 dated July 10, 2024 of the Secretariat on innovation in vocational training for rural workers to meet the requirements of industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas, the Department has advised on the development of a Project to innovate and improve the quality of vocational training by 2030, integrating the Project on vocational conversion training for rural agricultural workers in the Mekong Delta by 2030. In addition, it has also developed plans and guided localities in organizing agricultural vocational training for rural workers in localities, especially vocational training in national target programs.

Currently, over 600,000 rural workers have been trained in agricultural occupations. Localities have invested in facilities, equipment, and training means for 64 vocational training institutions participating in agricultural vocational training in the period of 2021 - 2024. In the field of agricultural and rural electromechanics, during the year, the Department proactively organized activities to improve state management capacity on mechanization such as: Developing documents, organizing training courses on state management on mechanization; organizing training courses on occupational safety and hygiene in the agricultural sector; building databases, digital transformation on mechanization; connecting businesses and cooperatives to build mechanization service models in localities.
